Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

The negotiations will certainly be interesting. They didn't go over smoothly with Carolina. Is Necas (and his agent) smart enough not to entertain the first offer the Avs might present to him in July 1st? He still has another full season to play with MacKinnon and Makar.

I think the estimations are off. Parsinnen is going to cost more than 1M. And clearly we need to spend more money on the 3rd pairing. At the same time, the Avs would likely shed Colton’s 4M and replace with Ritchie and save 3+M. Shedding Wood would also save an additional 1.5M. That would give the Avs close to 5M to get a more supportive 3rd pairing.

I dont see why Parssinen would cost more then $1M... He's got 21 points in his last 75 games. Barely NHL level production. If he ends up having a strong 2nd half, maybe. But we're talking like $1.5M tops.

I do agree about the 3rd pairing. But like you said I also don't really imagine Wood or especially Colton still being here if they're 4th liners for us.

I'm also still not convinced Drouin gets $4M. I think $3M is closer.

But either way it's clear they have space to make upgrades.

That seems likely right now. Rantanen does however have multiple elite seasons to refer back to, so I think Necas will make less than 14M unless he absolutely pops off (and I wouldn't mind that).
I mean Necas won't make Rantanen money, but if he doesn't sign during the offseason and is going to his free agency year without a new contract, he's certainly not going to make single digits.

Interesting timing of this cap news. You have to think they have some idea.

1. Necas' contract might not look too different than Rants at the end of the day
2. Impacts TD negotiations happening right now - long term deals just skyrocketed in value
3. That Seth Jones full deal might not look so bad
You have to remember not all teams are gonna spend to the cap. Some are gonna have a hard time spending to the floor.

The cost to dump a contract will almost certainly drop considerably now.

There's gonna be a few teams that will need a bad contract or two just to reach the floor.

This is why it may be worth actually exploring a 3rd team retaining on Jones. The AAV and real money obligation is significantly different in most of his remaining years.

The issue with Jones is the term I think.

5 Years is a long time to be using up 1 of your 3 retention slots.

Obviously, but there are multiple years he's only making 2.5M with a 9M AAV.

I'm just saying, if we're about to see some teams struggle to hit the cap floor over the next 3 years. It might be actually possible and valuable to involve the right 3rd team.

The thread on the main board about the salary cap is full of people saying we f***ed up by trading Rantanen. Oddballs.
Understandable, trading one of the best wingers in hockey probably looks crazy to people who don't watch the Avs on a nightly basis.

That said, if the Avs don't do anything else going forward, then, well, I think the trade is kind of a failure.

I had no idea who the f*** Necas is before the trade, I think it's the same for everyone who isn't a Canes fan.

There are several Eastern teams I forget exist until we play them. Carolina, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Buffalo. Just a collective total waste of space.

Friedman said that a new deal for Boeser is a long shot. What about targeting him and JTM for Mitts ++ and then sending Colton ++ for Jones?

$24,150,000

That’s the combined AAV of the 3 players you just identified and Boeser is a UFA in 5 months. :D

No offense, but that’s just silly.

Salary cap is a thing.

Yes, I know. There would obviously have to be some other players included, and retention for both Jones and Boeser to make it work, and Boeser would be a pure rental. We always complain about secondary scoring. Boeser would help there, a lot more than Colton and Mitts have.
