Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

I like that gamble for the Flames. Farabee has been a good player prior to this season. I guess Philly just wanted out of his contract?

I mostly want Miller just so I can watch half this place implode.

Oh I'll be raging for sure. The type of guy who saps all of the energy, enthusiasm, and happiness out of wherever he goes in the disguise of "competitiveness." Reality is he's just a miserable ****.

What do you think of him as a player on-ice and a fit to Bednar's style?

41.52 is the timestamp

"In Miller's case, the feeling is it's been Eastern United States and I think that's opened up a bit. I think that's more like now give me a good situation or a contender. There's been some rumors about Miller and Colorado. I think if that was real, you know, last time I checked Colorado isn't Eastern United States, but I don't think he would reject it for geographical reasons."

Yeah not convincing.

This tells me that they may not want to trade him to us:

Good player when he's on and competing. A lot of quit in him on the ice, especially in the defensive zone, so that's something that likely wouldn't fit with Bednar. I also wonder about how he ages and his speed going forward as he's already 32. You could say that about most players around that age though. IMO, just too much risk when you factor in the length of his contract. He's the type you acquire in a contract year and hope for the best, not someone to lock yourself into.

Honestly, there are some similarities to Naz but we know he works here both on and off the ice.

For some perspective, Mikko’s current contract 9.25, for the season he signed compared to 3 years from now would be equal to 12.88M relative to the new cap.

Hate to keep going down this road but if Mikko was willing to take less than Mackinnon, Cmac refusing to pay a top 15 ish player and top 5 winger 12.5M is just f***ing brutal by him.

No thanks to Miller

Based on who the Avs have under contract and on the team right now, and assuming Landy is back, that gives the Avs a touch over 8 million to spend next year on one top 9 forward, two bottom pair defenders, and two bench spots. Not too bad but a touch tight. Lot will depend on Landy.

Just checked and your numbers seem correct. Somewhere around 8ish M in space. Parsinnen would be 1, maybe Drouin as the 2nd forward signing. At the same time, the Avs would likely be in a position to create additional room by moving Wood or Colton and bringing up Ritchie as a 3rd lin winger. A Colton trade out would give them over 11M in space to start.

It's irrelevant what he was willing to take if he never communicated that to the other side.

There is also Ritchie, who may take that forward spot for cheap.

Instead they will have Nečas at $6M, half Mikko's cap hit, and will have an extra $6.5+ M to use on better depth.

At the same time, signing Rantanen would prob tank next year as well. You’d have to wait for the season after next to start having the adequate space to have a good enough team.
And by then, you’ve also aged MacKinnon and Rantanen and Makar by an additional 1.5 years+.

So Avs offered more than what he was willing to take and yet this is the result?
From what I choose to believe about the reports, is that the gap was probably less than 750k. Rantanen wanted 12-12.5, the Avs held absolute firm on 11.75 as the max. I give them credit for doing it, even if I disagree. They made a great trade under the circumstances.
