Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

Size doesn't matter when it comes to net-front presence. I remember when the only guy on the Avs who knew how to score goals from the slot area in was Danny Briere. Apart from injuries, Marek Svatos was unstoppable in front of the net. Dino Ciccarelli was a little guy but scored 1,200 points in his NHL career.

I just want one guy...ONE GUY who has enough strength, quickness, skill, and know-how to actually maneuver in the net-front area to get to rebounds. Avs produce rebounds all the damn time but no one ever f***ing gets to them for second-chance scoring opportunities. And hey, I would love a guy not named Landeskog or Nichushkin (would accept those two if available though) who doesn't deflect a goddamn f***ing puck wide.

Then why isn't Lehhky doing it? He is kinda in and out, and tips pucks, but he doesn't plant his ass in the goalies face like Wood does. Like Nuke and Landeskog do.

The other day Boston just man handled Lehhky on the power play and didn't let him shoot the puck.

Yeah there are some smaller guys that are good at it. Parise was too in his prime.

The f***'s so special about Kesselring?

He's also 6'5

I think you're conflating two different things.

Guys like Svatos or Briere had good hands to pot rebounds, but were much easier to move away from the front of the net, to tie up their stick, didn't screen the goalie as well because they're smaller, and couldn't take physical punishment in front of the net as well.

Bigger players plant themselves in front of the net, take abuse, can still get shots off if a smaller defenseman is tying up their stick, and screen the goalies eyes better, because they're bigger.

Svatos and Briere were good players, but they were no where near as good in front of the net as guys like Landy, Val, Kreider, Benn, etc. Let alone the beasts that played back then.

There's a reason this team becomes so much easier to play against when they're missing both Gabe and Val.

Franzen is still the best net-front player of all-time. That f***er scored so many goals on us while the Barries and Hunwicks Liles' of our blueline were powerless to move him out of the crease

The Mule

Babcock would say, I've tried everything to get him to move, skate more, etc. He won't.

They literally tolerated him for years because of that talent lol.

TDL is March 7th. Another thread says Kylington will be in a regular practice jersey soon. IOW, wouldn’t we want to trade Malinski ASAP to see if we will need just one or two 3D (assuming CMac doesn’t get Jones and push Manson down. Then there is the matter of developing the pairs and giving them some time to gel. Just trying to get a sense of when to look forward to possible additional trades.

@RIAL - you previously said it’s okay to not want either JTM or Pete. Would you stick with Mitts or try and snag Crosby (FTR, I think this is a pipe dream) or someone else?

Crouse is basically Landy lite and is exactly what this team is missing. Hes got snarl to his game (something that we have next to none of other than Manson) and makes his living in front of the net. He does pretty much everything and is solid defensively. He’s basically Bernard we dream.

Oh man, obviously if Crosby was available he’s the #1 target. 3 runs with Sid at $8.7m would be great. Unlikely, though.

I go back and forth on the 2C spot. I feel like we’ve invested in Mitts and it’d be great if he could work out. Right age, contract, etc. but it’s so frustrating when he just disappears.

I’d love Kadri. Nelson would be alright. Not a big fan of Miller or EP for different reasons.

I’m with you on Mitts but the manner in which he just dropped off was disconcerting. Obviously Kadri is a fit but issues are his contract term and age IIRC. Like Nuke, once you’re older injuries become more of a concern. The POs can be brutal in terms of physicality.

JTM, too much drama on the team. Adding Pete, just reminds me of the TML being top heavy.

This absurd Makar vs Hughes debate...

When I watch Makar I see him do things and think Hughes could never do that. Still. It still happens because Makar can still put people on rollerskates then do his thing.

Hughes’ thing isn’t anything more than puck possession. If MacKinnon played for the Canucks, Hughes would be even less than Makar. So let this sing. Let them have this pathetic song and dance.

Hughes is just as good offensively. That's the thing, Makar can actually put up these points while being responsible defensively.

If Makar went all out leaning offense like Werenski leading breakouts and shit he'd put up even more points.

Also, Conn Smythe, get bent.
