They should be seeing our scoring issues. The biggest thing missing is a real net front presence with size without Nuke. Wood does go to the net, but he's just not Nuke or Crouse.

But no, this is just spitballing.

The questions around Landeskog and Nuke make it really appealing to have a guy like Crouse. Especially since it looks like 3C is solved with Drury, and for cheap for a minute.

I think something like Colton + one of our 2nds would be reasonable return. Colton carries a similar cap hit and similar production in that 20G/40 point range and also plays pretty physical himself. But doesn't have the size and is a year older.

Colton does have the versatility of being able to play C or Wing...


I dunno, I think they're fairly close in value tbh. Maybe we'd get a late pick back with Crouse for Ross + 2nd. Like a 5th or 6th or something. The CMac special.

I just don't see Colton waiving for a team outside the playoffs picture. Why would any player do that having the choice?

There’s a couple of great young D in trade talks, hoping the Avs go after one of them. Simon Nemec, and Brandt Clarke. Both would be great to have.

Colton + pick to NJD for Nemec.

Mittelstadt + ? To VAN for Miller

Colton has a full NTC and I don’t see why he would waive for Utah.

Size doesn't matter when it comes to net-front presence. I remember when the only guy on the Avs who knew how to score goals from the slot area in was Danny Briere. Apart from injuries, Marek Svatos was unstoppable in front of the net. Dino Ciccarelli was a little guy but scored 1,200 points in his NHL career.

I just want one guy...ONE GUY who has enough strength, quickness, skill, and know-how to actually maneuver in the net-front area to get to rebounds. Avs produce rebounds all the damn time but no one ever f***ing gets to them for second-chance scoring opportunities. And hey, I would love a guy not named Landeskog or Nichushkin (would accept those two if available though) who doesn't deflect a goddamn f***ing puck wide.
 
Something around:
NJD: Colton+
Utah: Nemec
Avs: Crouse

I would prefer a 2C or 4RD but Crouse is one guy I would deviate from that.
We would still have assets and cap to go get a 4RD.

Yeah like others have said there's no reason Colton would waive for Utah, but a 3 team trade like that might work.

But then again, with $5.6m in capspace you might not even need to move Colton to make the trade above, just cut NJ out completely and send Utah the 2nd + 4th picks that Carolina gave us. That still leaves ~$1.3m to add Dumoulin @50%.

Yeah there’s just no way you can look at this team and think they can win right now with Mittelstadt as the 2C. MAAAAAYYbe you could get away with it if he was sheltered by two superstars and the 3rd and 4th lines were deep but that’s just not the case with this team.

He’s also not a bottom 6 kinda player. I’m just convinced at this point that he needs to be swapped out along with other assets for an upgrade.

Mitts and Colton need to go and we need a new bottom pair for defense. There's no way around it. Hopefully Drury can be a 3C going forward, something that Colton failed to do.

Personally I lost hope in Mitts turning it around and according to Friedman the Avs have, too.
 
I think people wanting Nemec would be disappointed after watching him play. I was a big fan of his but he's trending in the wrong direction and has some pretty glaring red flags that are still showing up in the AHL.

He's definitely available though, unlike Kovaecivic.

And ya Kesslering is the guy we should really be targeting out of Utah, but I also don't see him being available. Maybe so only because they have Durzi, Lamoureux and Marino next year, but it would cost a pretty penny.

Crouse would be nice if they do move Necas 2C and maybe CMac forces Bednar's hand a bit by acquiring more wingers. Rust is another guy that would be a good add.
