Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

I think Mikko signs an extension with the Hurricanes within 2 weeks from now.

It's in the best interest of both parties to get a deal done.

From the Canes point of view - they don't want to be the team that gave up that package that includes Necas for a rental.

From Mikko's point of view - especially if he's finding that points are a little harder to come by with less ice-time and a different team, he's likely going to want to sign long-term with a team that includes his buddy Aho.

I could be wrong but I think it gets done.

I think there's more pressure from the Canes side. Mikko will get paid.

Really hope we stay away from Murphy from the Hawks, he wouldn't be able to keep up with this team in terms of speed.

Would much rather use one of the 2nd round picks + Malinski on a retained Dumoulin who's having a great year and can still skate

Another guy I keep wanting is Kesselring from Ewwtah but they're probably reluctant to trade him. I'd easily give the NYR 2nd or Guly up for him.

Other RHD targets that I'd look at would be Jensen or Marino, if their teams are out of it near the deadline

While everyone has their opinion on how to run a team, all these posts are clearly not aligned with what CMac has done and said. He's not going for the top heavy, let's trade everyone for space so we can get a star thinking. Wood and Colton are bottom six players, move up to top six only in a pinch. You need good bottom six to win in the playoffs. I don't see those guys going anywhere this season.

The cap space appears to be a mix of Landy contingency and maybe ability to pick up a 5/6 D at best. IMO, the Avs don't need to displace Manson, they need to make sure CDH/Kylington/Middleton don't play a playoff game. I could live with Malinski there but don't think Bednar would. You can get that kind of player with the 2nd and 4th they just picked up.

I just started a thread on the main board, asking people if there was no cap, what would their team look like. Just thought its a fun idea. I think for the Avs, we would probably have Eichel at 2C because we had interest in him, in fact for a moment, even Eichel said he thought he was going to Colorado. What a 1-2 punch at center that would be with Nate and Jack

One thing that intrigued me from what Friedman said yesterday on HNIC is that the cap in two years likely goes above 100M and some teams might not be comfortable spending over 100M on their roster. He insinuated teams would set internal caps and that Colorado could be one of those teams based on how they handled Rantanen.

Over a 100 mill cap will be awesome. Teams can put together really deep rosters. It will be closer to when there was no cap. I mean most teams probably didn’t even spend 100 mill when there was no salary cap

That's not how it works, everybody will make more money so you won't be able to add more "expensive" players.

What's the Nuggets salary structure? Anyone know? Hard for me to believe they would let the Nuggets spend whatever, but not the Avs. Stan has been a high spending owner the entire time he has owned them. Really Hard for me to believe they would stop that now.

The teams where that would be hugely beneficial are the ones that locked up their top tier players for cheaper deals before the big cap increase. Otherwise, as you mentioned, everyone’s just going to be making more

Looks like $182.5M. More than double what they spend on the Avs currently. An extra $20M for them is like $20 to you and me.

Jones with retention for Wood Manson and futures?

If CMac hadn't panicked during the summer of 2023 and bought a Costco sized pack of random jobbers like Wood Ryjo Tatar and Colton. This team would be in a better situation.

With Wood and Colton he tried to build a bottom 6 that Bednar would like.

The Nuggets (and the NBA in particular) make a lot more money than the Avalanche do.

The current ownership have said before they don’t mind spending money…so long as they make it count. They have proven to be notoriously cheap in other areas (like buyouts and coaching salaries) but if there’s talent to keep they’ll dole out.
