Well that's pretty much the same isn't it? Whether he signs first like Tkachuk or later like Huberdeau it doesn't really matter. They'd make sure that he won't walk before pulling the trigger on a trade like that.
No, it's not really the same thing, one is an actual contract, the other is just an agreement in principle, more of a handshake deal than anything else. So yeah, they'd want to know he's going to re-sign or at least possibly re-sign, but if he says he won't then yeah it's off. I can't imagine him not wanting to play there if they're willing to pay him though.

Lol, then don't give a shit what the numbers say. Guy who loves to defend Rantanen getting the short end of the linemate stick choosing to ignore who Pettersson plays with at 5v5 is hilarious.

Pettersson is still nearly PPG since 23-24 while being very good defensively.
And he has been basically 0.75PPG and a - player for a full year now. BTW, his linemates suddenly didn't change when his production dropped off. He just became worse.

Look, I would absolutely take EP40 before JT Miller. I would play the odds with the age and ceiling. But don't pretend that he's been fine, because he hasn't. He has been ass for a year now, which is not a small samplesize. And when you are paid over 11.5M dollars, that's just not acceptable.

He did pop off for a minute when JTM left irrc lol.
He did. Which still doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence. #1, a lot of people still said he didn't look that much better, even if the production was there. #2, if that was just because he felt it easier to play without JT Miller around, how about putting him in the same locker room as MacKinnon?

Mack is not JTM, or else Mikko would be dead.

Knew you were going to bring that up.

You are implying that Mikko is lazy or doesn't care, when he year in year out posts the best physical results out of the team, and is by many accounts very outspoken in the room. His style of play looks frustratingly lazy, that part is true.

Am I the only one who wouldn’t want either of JTM or Petey?

I think Miller is an unnecessarily intense and argumentative asshole and I think EP is a soft ass p***y.

Am I alone on this?
Nope

Salvation lies within

We should get a depth defenseman. But I'm fine with our forward group, provided we actually get everyone healthy by the playoffs. Includes Landeskog.

Yeah, that's a tall order, I know.

I used to feel that way, was more on the JTM side, but seeing JTM be a complete hypocrite ended that.

EP doesn't play soft though.

The potential to have that kind of 1/2 punch is just too much if you're telling me Mikko is walking if he doesn't get 14M/yr.

Considering we only have a few years left in our window, I'm not against win-now moves like acquiring Miller. He may be an argumentative asshole, but it usually takes a few years before he starts pissing off the locker room.

I'm with you on Miller, but I don't think Petey is soft as shit.

To be clear, I don’t mean on the ice.

I mean as a competitive, professional athlete. I think he’s soft. I don’t think he understands or cares what it takes to sacrifice and win at the highest level.

Collect a paycheck, play some video games, etc. I don’t want a guy like that.

LOL, are you talking about training camp stats or something? Especially having had Nuke and Landeskog on this roster?

I'm more inclined to believe Lehhky's dad at this point.

I'd be demoralized in that organization too.

Also consider that a majority of us are argumentative assholes and look how far we've gotten these team!

When else does the team do physicals? And what else is a better indicator, than how seriously one has done summer training? And yes, Mikko has topped the team basically every year. Even with Landy and Nuke.

For the record, while a lot of people know me as this huge Mikko shill and I'm not shying away from the fact that he's my favourite player, I've never been of the mind that the Avs must re-sign him no matter what the cost, or that the Avs shouldn't explore trading him away.

I just don't really see trading him away being a realistic way to improve the team.

Same.

- Don't want Miller, he's a cancer in the locker room
- Don't want EP, no emotion/intensity, sure he'll put up points, but come playoffs, he'll get mangled like a ragdoll with no pushback
- Don't want Seth Jones, cause he sucks.

Ah, I see, you view them as two (very extreme) sides of the same coin. Well...I certainly hope that's not the case with Petey but time will tell one way or the other.

It's going to be very interesting to see how they fit him in. His AAV and term is crazy for a team that already cannot afford Rantanen and doesn't have a 2C worth a shit.
I have no idea. I floated the idea of replacing Mitts with Pinto as a way of getting cheaper, but I seem to be the only one who is interested in that. I don't know if there is another center who could be cheaper than Mitts that would be a good replacement.

As for Jones, I would look at the Hertl deal as a framework for a trade. But the Avs would need either more retention than Hertl got or a big salary going back (or both). So, might be a little richer for the Avs to pull off.

No. But I don't know who else the Avs would go after. Mitts was obvious last year, but in general the moves kinda come out of nowhere for CO and it's usually a slightly underrated option that excels in CO. So i'm hoping for that when it comes to F's.

If the options are Miller, Petterson, or Jones, I would take JTM all day. He may be an asshole but he had one of the best games against the Avs so far this season. When he's on, he plays physical hockey.

He brings what the Avs should be looking to add. Plus he makes 8M instead of 11+ or 9.5.

I have a hard time seeing Mack and JTM getting along.

Proof please, as far as Mikko's training camp stats. 🙏

I don't think anything involving Mikko is very realistic either, but it's the shit sandwich on the table we're all discussing.
