There was a time I wanted to take a chance on Pinto. There was also a time I wanted to take a chance on Hayton. Hell, the Avs had me thinking we should take a flier on Jost and Newhook.

At this point I'm truly ruined. The only 2C that I know for a fact worked well was Peter Forsberg.

"Depth" is the reason we witnessed one of the greatest Cup runs in the cap era. Opposing coaches continously pointed out the Avs' ability to roll all 4 lines as being the reason they were so tough to beat. Lots of that was a culmination of factors, like most of the roster playing above their value...having skill guys like Bura playing a middle-6 role and a cheap Bowen Byram playing to the level that he did. But you compare that with what we have now...I mean they're struggling to roll even two lines consistently, let alone four.

The last couple of games have been a microcosm of this. No one on the 4th line played more than 1:45 in the 3rd period. And for the second consecutive game, that unit allowed a goal. Both times off the rush where they had poor defensive coverage due to guys getting back late. That unit being a black hole puts a lot of pressure on the rest of the players, and it's even worse when they're actively hurting the team.

Friedman's 32 thoughts from last night, number 6. Mostly just rambling on.

Blackhawk fans on Twitter seem to think it's something around Mitts for Donato.

Pretty sad, if that's true.

Sad for a few reasons:

- Mitts is signed for 3 years, Donato is a UFA in 5 months.
- Mitts cost us Byram. Imagine trading Byram for Ryan f***ing Donato a year ago. Unfathomable.
- Donato is a perennial 25-30 point player having a career year in a contract season on a terrible team. Likely unsustainable.
- The most pathetic part? This somehow makes us better... trading Casey Mittelstadt for Ryan Donato. That should have never been the case, this should have been a trade we laugh our assess off at as we hang up the phone. Now, it's an upgrade.

Really think the Avs need to target players that match the style of play they want, rather than hoping the target player will figure out their style of play. It's quite clear Bednar's "skate faster, try harder" system only highlights the weaknesses of poor skaters.

Love how we are going off of Chicago fans on Twitter as our rumor source. All anyone really knows is that Chicago has been scouting the shit out of the Avs and Eagles. It really could be anything.

Whatever Davidson and MacFarland have cooking, it would be incredibly stupid for the Avs to compensate Chicago for retaining on Jones. That contract was their mistake; they should do the lifting when it comes to aligning his value with the AAV of an acquiring team.

How often does a GM scout games in a row? Does that not kind of make it seem like it could be a fair sized trade they are discussing, I assume?

Mittlestadt needs to be traded for futures and pray Cmac can turn those assets into a true 2c. He's tried it before with Newhook that eventually turned to Colton, just hope some team values holds Mittlejost in high value.
