Hopefully it's not much to add to Ivan to get Evans or Ivan for Granlund+retention by a 3rd team
Wouldn't be too shocked to see Ivan and a 4th for Dumoulin 50% retained. But I'm not a big fan of the idea of losing Ivan. Got to retain at least one of the 4th liners who actually look like they belong.

Scouts at Ball Arena earlier today for COL-DAL:

Chicago
San Jose
Philadelphia
Anaheim
Columbus
Montreal
Minnesota

Reminder that Chicago, San Jose, Montreal and Philadelphia were all also at the Eagles two games where Ivan played earlier this week. Likely in attendance today to watch him play again.

@Cousin Eddie might’ve been onto something when he suggested Ivan could get traded.
In on the Seth Jones sweeps!

i Think they are going to cross their fingers w midddlejost at 2C and focus on adding a 4/5 D who’s primarily strong in their own end and on pk
I think that’s something they need to do but they gotta get another center. I don’t think they can get another 2C, it’s Mitts or nothing, but they have to get a better 3C. This rotation of Kelly/Ivan is nowhere near good. I don’t think there’s another team in the league where those two wouldn’t be anything more than 4th liners.

Honestly I dont know if they do? I dont really see a roster spot for him on this team anymore if we ever get even close to full strength. Our ideal 4th line at this point is probably Kivi/Kelly/LOC, they've been strong together pretty much all year.

And then you've got Parsnip here who has already shown more then Ivan has as well IMO.

And at the end of the day, 4th line guys are easy to find every year and dont really have much of an impact on your year. Next year they'll have Prishchepov likely battling for a 4th line spot, and they should be bringing back all 4 of Kelly/Kivi/LOC/Parsnip anyway.... And a guy like Bardakov likely gets a long look as well assuming he comes over.

It actually makes a lot of sense for Ivan to be available and for the Avs to potentially look at cashing in on his value being somewhat decent for showing to be an NHLer.

I think it's interesting that everyone has completely forgot about the existence of Givani Smith

What does it take to get a freshly extended Christiansen from CBJ? That’s the third pairing defender that comes to mind as a target, from the teams scouting us (I’m sure there are more, e.g., Dumo).

Younger player with maybe a little upside and a little term on his contract.

Ivan +?

Can we get Ferraro?
He’s not good. Makar knows this too.

If Chicago is open to retaining dear god I would be all in. People don’t like him but he’s such a solid minute muncher. He's one of the few RHD in the league actually better than Makar at PK’ing which would help limit those minutes for 8 so he doesn’t have to roll around on the ice crying every night. In the last two weeks alone Cale has a 7 blocked shots game, a 6, and a 5.

Not just that but Jones provides a hell of a lot more. He’s a borderline top pairing D he would play with Girard on the 2nd pairing. Manson could move down.

I know with that contract it’s unlikely, but if you could convince Chicago to retain a bunch, he’d be one hell of a fit.

if we can get a top four rd I like where we at with this roster.. nuke and landy out could push some good depth to the macho stamd

I don't follow other teams too closely so I don't know if I'm way off base here, maybe he's untouchable I have no idea, but I was very impressed with Alex Vlasic on Chicago when we played him. Big long rangey defender who skates well.

Didn't he just sign an extension or long term somewhat recently?

Mitts does his best when other players create a bit more space for him as @Balthazar alluded to in the other thread. To me that suggests he could produce fairly well with third line grinders like LOC.

The question then becomes can we package Colton+Ritchie+ to upgrade the center position further. If Mitts could be our third line center we’d be in an unbelievable position.

Even if we moved Colton+ could we really afford a 5.75 3C?

I want them to try the JD-Mitts-Lehky line again. They dominated against the Stars.

As it stands that’s only $1.25m more than our “3C” in Colton. I think we can afford to have a high paid 3C, but it does somewhat boil down to LTIR for this season and Mikko for next.

I totally agree, but an upgrade to the center position would provide us unbelievable center depth. It’s definitely a pipe dream, but an area that would be electric if we could upgrade

You'd probably have to include Manson going the other way, and hope he'd waive his NMC, just for the cap to work.

Then you still need to find another $5m in cap savings, either through retention or by sending contracts back.

Maybe something like this could work as a base:

Jones ($2m retained, so $7.5m caphit) for Manson ($4.5m) + Wood ($2.5m) + picks/prospects.

That's $7m going back to Chicago, so the Avs would only be adding $500k, albeit Wood's roster spot would need to be replaced by a league minimum contract too.

$2m retention for 5 years would be a big retention obviously, and likely wouldn't be cheap unless Chicago really want Jones gone.

Another alternative would be to trade Rantanen (whether to Chicago or elsewhere), and re-allocate his capspace to Jones at 2RHD. Not saying the Avs should do that, its just an alternative way to find capspace for Jones IF the Avs wanted to pursue him.

Colton makes $4M, not $4.5M

We cant afford a 3C making $5.75M. Not unless they really did want to let Mikko walk, AND Landy is done.

I have always liked Ivan since day 1 and I like him even more now BUT if he can help getting us a very good asset in return to fill a bigger hole I am all for it. Like I always say...it is always about the return so let's wait and see what CMac has up his sleeve.
