They said supposedly Avs will trade Mikko if they think they can’t re-sign him. How will they know if they can or can’t re-sign him with less than 2 months to go until trade deadline? Are they actively negotiating right now? It’s been pretty quiet on that front.

If Carolina was down, I'd give them Rantanen for Nikishin, Drury and their 1st round pick.

Then turn around and give Vancouver Mittelstadt, Ritchie, and Carolina's 1st for Pettersson.

F*** reality. Nobody tell me no. I'm gonna go dream of it and all the cups we'd win. Assholes.
This makes us a worse team. I don’t get it. Going from Mikko to EP is a downgrade. Drury is what, a bottom 6 forward? Just 9 points in 33 games this year and Nikishin is a prospect playing in KHL

I can't stop thinking about a Nikishin+Necas return for Mikko...

Which is funny cuz I honestly don't know much about nikishin.

I think re-signing Mikko has to be Plan A. But I keep thinking about Svech+Nikishin.

Svech under contract at $7.75M and playing a playoff brand of physical hockey is a better fit for this team than Necas IMO, and Nikishin might be that top 4 two way LD with size and skill I've wanted for a while, that could play every once in a while with Makar if he pans out, and take some pressure off Toews.

Only way it makes sense is if they can upgrade 2C at the same time though. Otherwise it's too big a downgrade this year from Mikko to Svech to do it.

You buy out Nikishin's KHL contract, he immediately steps in and plays top 4 on most, if not all, NHL teams. You get an NHL bottom-six forward to take the place of an AHL scrub, and you get a real center behind MacKinnon. F*** it.

EP is not worth giving up Mikko for, and definitely not at 11 mill. If I’m trading Mikko for a center, I’d prefer someone like Eichel. Not saying Eichel is available, just an example type of center I’d want

It's fun that you guys keep it realistic like that :sarcasm:

Nikishin's contract actually ends this year. No need for a buyout. If SKA's season ends early, they could bring him over for the playoffs like they did Kovalenko if they want to.

This is really interesting. So basically the Salary cap last year was 1.5-2.5% lower than it should have been... And revenue projections are obviously doing extremely well this year.

I feel like a $95M cap is honestly the floor for next year and wouldn't be totally shocked to see it hit like $98M at this point. Clearly the league is doing exceptionally well from a revenue standpoint.

If the cap goes up this much then there is your reason for the negotiatons holdup.

Also tough luck for Mack with the year he needed to sign.

Also also if Avs have internal cap with Macks amount then Avs not gonna sign anymore superstars after this year until Macks contract ends....

If I were Cmac or Mikko's agent, I would be negotiating his extension based on a % of the new cap rather than a hard dollar figure. Get that settled on and wait for the cap figure to come out and sign then.

Yeah pretty much.

We're talking about substantial changes to the cap here, potentially as much as a $10M difference in projections in 2 years time... Makes sense for the Avs to be wanting to be sure what direction it's going before committing.

On the flip side it makes the Blackwood deal look even better. I said on the main boards Blackwood probably gets $8M as a UFA next summer if he keeps doing what he's doing for the year and this only further shows that's the case.

I think the number 97M was floated around by some insiders a few weeks back, and Alan Walsh suggested even 99M.
