I'm looking forward to a Mikko trade followed by a retool and a new contention window opening up in 2028.After seeing the actual Lavoie quote, it's even more clear to me that this is posturing from Cmac to me. But I'll belive Mikko gets traded this year when it happens.

The Avs have not thrown out anythingI do like the Avs throwing out the threat of a trade to Rants. His side has been posturing that they'll need 14M AAV, good for the Avs to throw it out there that if they aren't willing to negotiate they'll just send him elsewhere.
Just the media commenting on it (even if it isn't completely true) is likely a good thing. Rants has historically been hard to negotiate with, I think the Avs do need to put the pressure on him and provide some sort of deadline. Having him walk for nothing would be an absolute disaster with all the other question marks on the roster. The Avs have not thrown out anything
I really f***ing HATE this notion that Rantanen was tough on negotiations. Yeah, took almost into the season. Like every SINGLE one of his peers that summer, because they were all playing chicken waiting for each other to sign to have comparables. And it's basically the same again this year with Marner. And when you look at the last few years, other players around the league have also taken long into their UFA season to sign (Pastrnak, Nylander).Just the media commenting on it (even if it isn't completely true) is likely a good thing. Arguably they just did with this Lavoie news. The Avs have not thrown out anything
What news? There really was no news. He didn't report anything.Arguably they just did with this Lavoie news.
That they're willing to trade Mikko. I don't believe it and it's almost 1000% posturing, but this definitely comes off as a response to the 14mil thing that came out a few weeks ago. What news? There really was no news. He didn't report anything.
Again, there has been no such report. Lavoie wasn't reporting anything, he was merely talking about the Avalanche being a type of a team that would be willing to pull of such a move even in a cup window. While there has been exactly zero times the Avs have done something like that, and on the contrary, have many times kept their pending UFAs as rentals and then let them walk during the summer. That they're willing to trade Mikko. I'm not saying I believe they will trade him, I've said as much. I'm saying that they're using that report as a negotiation tactic.Again, there has been no such report. I believe the Avs would be willing to pull the trigger in a trade that would help them win a cup this year and in the future. Pulling off such a trade is pretty f***ing hard to do.
Why do you hate the notion? Just because his peers were also difficult to negotiate with doesn't make Rantanen not difficult. He played tough all summer. He was tough to negotiate with and likely will be again.I really f***ing HATE this notion that Rantanen was tough on negotiations. Yeah, took almost into the season. There's really nothing extraordinary about this specific negotiation. Not in a league wide context, and not even with the Avs when you remember that the captain of this team signed one day (1!) before hitting UFA.
I think the difference is Rants can get an 8 year deal and moved to a team he wants to play on. That's valuable. Unfortunately his contract will completely nuke the depth even more. If they're good with Nuke staying, I think it's the right move. Even in season if the get is big enough. You can probably fill 2 big holes moving him.During their contention window who have the Avs traded where upcoming contract demands may have been a factor?
Barrie? Newhook? Maybe Byram?
Both times moving the D to secure a guy with potential to fill a 2C spot. Newhook because he wasn't working out here.
The list of guys that have walked through UFA we've already talked about.
I'm really struggling to see any guys the Avs traded for the sake of getting some assets back rather than losing as a UFA for nothing.
Honestly I don't think any players were traded due to contract negotiations. If Makar hadn't shown up, Barrie very likely would have stayed (and, boy, that would not have worked out). Newhook wasn't dealt because of negotiations, Newhook was dealt because he sucks. Byram was dealt in part because he was the team's best trade chip by far and they had a dire need at the 2C position (sadly still do). Also, it's pretty clear he wants a bigger role and the Avs would not provide that, certainly not after Toews was re-upped, which I think took placed before he was dealt but I can't quite remember.During their contention window who have the Avs traded where upcoming contract demands may have been a factor?

He's also the captain of the team. There is more incentive by the team to not let your C hit UFAEh, whatever. Things got way more contentious during the Landeskog negotiations and they managed to work something out.
It will because all of a sudden you have a 2C and don't need Mitts and his cap hit.IMO the only reason you trade Mikko is if they've decided better depth is the way to extend our window and if that's the case Petey and his $11.6M ain't gonna help with that.
Ya but his closest comps are pasta and Drai both signed recently so the basis of a deal is there for both sides. Would Mikko leave for an extra 10-15m on a ~100 million contract? I tend to think no and the Avs are just lowballing him but the threat is there. No reason this contract shouldn’t be done by now.I really f***ing HATE this notion that Rantanen was tough on negotiations. Yeah, took almost into the season. Mikko has the same agent as Drai and Blackwood so....No reason this contract shouldn’t be done by now.
