2024-2025 Tank Thread

No chance those offers are still on the table - Pettersson hasn't looked right for almost a whole calendar year. Teams will be looking to lowball us

I think its time to right off this season, I'm not suggesting a full rebuild, just write this season off and come back stronger next year. prepare for this draft instead and go from there. there's just too many injuries right now to make a realistic push to finish in 13th or 14th. Likes what really the point of that.

I mean if Hughes is out long term we dont need to plan for a tank. If we keep playing like this Hughes gets the Hart trophy by default. no player is more valuable to his team than Hughes to these ungrateful f*cks.

Canucks won't be trading their first rounder this year.....they suck.....time to start to seriously checking the lottery team half of the first round.

I could easily see a scenario where Miller, Boeser and maybe even Demko don't finish the year as Canucks.

One thing is for sure......if Allvin bides his time and is a big-time 'seller' at the TDL, these three guys would net a bounty of picks and prospects.

And in one fell-swoop they'd finally extinguish their cap woes, which have plagued this team since the disastrous Benning years.
Demko has zero value.

I mean it’s not the end of the world if we miss the playoffs, most likely end up with 10th to 15th overall pick, which these days your much more likely to find a game changer here than era’s past

There's no gamechanger where we'll be picking. Even the top 5 looks suspect. Looks like 2010 all over again, 1-2 and then everyone else.

No shot this year

The amount of blown leads this year is the tell tale sign

It’s like every night. Just no confidence from this roster to maintain things.

It's a weak draft and I don't trust this brass to pick the best player. Rather trade the pick for a defenseman.

based on what?
Scouting reports and how many 2026 draft eligible are making an impact.
Some drafts are just better than others, deeper.

Maybe no game changers but NHL players. This draft it might be the top 4, maybe.

But god I hope it isn't 10 to 15 because it means we are stuck in the mush middle for a long time.
Unfortunately racking up too many loser points.

Team needs to go on a Rangers-like skid if they want to tank.
Ya, take away 4 OT win points and 9 OTL points, they only have 14 regulation wins out of 39 games not enough to win the cup.
They could trade EP, Miller, Boeser for 2026 picks + and end up in that 10 to 15 picks area this year.

This rebuild if done could have the team getting BETTER every year for the next decade or longer.
The present line up has enough bottom 7/8 players to carry young guys learning.

The lessons of Buffalo, Arizona can be used as educational. Both teams have had multiple owners, GM's and coaches all pulling players in different directions.
As much as a lot of posters will disagree a coach like Torts is the perfect coach for young players, he did with Tampa, NYR, Columbus and now Philly.getting 2 Adams trophies and runner up twice more.

A rebuild might also purge the team of the losing culture

probably gonna get shitted on but we should trade Pettersson and tank the next 2.5 years.
And then Hughes wants out too. So, basically selling everything...

More 2011 with RNH, Landy, Hub, Larsson. Wasn't a clear cut #1 guy in that group.

It would be nice to finally have a first round draft pick. I really hate trading them away. Last year it made sense, this year it absolutely does not.

You can't have much confidence in this current roster. Between injuries and team cohesion, it just doesn't seem like a time to buy big. No issues if they want to push if the roster was healthy and the team was a solid unit.

I mean, it sucked that demko got hurt in the PO, but nothing you can do about that bad luck. Now, however, he's hurt before the TDL, same with Hronek.

Just the opposite, we want to build around playoff performers like Hughes/Boeser so their talent doesn’t go to waste. I don’t see any better way we can do that successfully than tanking for a bit.
Are those new guys arriving & producing before Hughes is due to be a ufa? Winners don’t want to waste their career waiting for help.

Those 14 RW puts them tied for 15th in the league. True they are closer to the bottom (9 RW) than the top (25 RW) but I really don't think it's out of the realm of possibility if they didn't have 14 games from two goaltenders averaging a 0.86 SV% and 3.8 GAA they'd be in a much better position.

Not saying the team has been good. They haven't. However, they are maintaining a middling place in the standings with substantial time missed by key players. Given the success last year and the injuries I don't think this is a team that gets torn down...especially as they do sit in a playoff spot despite it all. Trades may be made but they won't be for picks and prospects. They will be for more established yet reasonably young players while keeping the bulk if not all of the core together. One core player could be moved (Miller or Pettersson) but that's about it and moving one of those guys isn't going to tank the team. I don't see them moving guys like Boeser who will likely sign a deal or Garland who if they continue with Tocchet he will want to keep or Hronek etc.
