Disappointing for sure, but it’s not like he’s been dominating his rookie season on defense like Fort was last year.
He’s super raw and physically immature. I’ll start “worrying” about him in the second half of next season. Or the start of his D+3.Disappointing for sure, but it’s not like he’s been dominating his rookie season on defense like Fort was last year.
Oh i’m not worried, i knew he was a long term project, just disappointing we cant watch him over the next 2 weeks at the tournament. He’s super raw and physically immature. I’ll start “worrying” about him in the second half of next season. Or the start of his D+3.
Emery was selected 30th. Kleber and Ralph were selected 42nd and 48th, respectively. It's not that big of a disparity.i didnt realize that not only did they cut EJE, they replaced him with 2 2nd rounders from his same draft year. That's a goddam terrible look
This. I put my post about Emery being cut more tongue in cheek given all other recent events around organization than anything else.Oh i’m not worried, i knew he was a long term project, just disappointing we cant watch him over the next 2 weeks at the tournament.
For those that follow Emery claoesly.
Is he meeting, exceeding or failing expectations for his freshman year?
Thank you. Much appreciated. It's a big jump from USNTDP to a top flight Div. 1 college team at 18 years old. He's been an every game player. North Dakota has turned out a number of NHL defensemen over the years. There are three in Ottawa right now--Sanderson, Kleven and Docker. It's a good place to be. he didn't make the USA WJC team.....he was in the running though. Again a coach is going to knock just be looking at guys who can put pucks in the net.....he's also going to look for guys he can fit into roles but also if he knows someone better....has coached them or tried to recruit them or met them personally before that's also an advantage. Some USA coaches had a thing about just college players---no CHL players. We don't really no everything that factors into the choices they make.
As far as expectations---moving onto the North Dakota U team at 18 and playing regularly is pretty much meeting them as far as this year goes. There are areas of his game that need to develop more. The Rangers knew that going in but Emery has had to acclimate to a significantly higher level of play and that usually takes time. He's likely going to be a defense first defenseman more than a two way defenseman. He has the speed and the frame and the inclinations where he could become a shutdown type of defenseman. He needs to put on weight and get stronger. He's 6'3 and listed at 185 lbs.---very little body fat. By the time he turns pro he'll probably need to be at least 200 but might go even heavier than that. He's playing against lots of opponents who are already that. There are multiple avenues to progress for him still. He's just a kid.
That Chytil pick from what pick he was drafted at, and the awfulness of that 2017 draft gets like an A or A+. His 156 career points is 12th most from that draft class, Of the 11 guys ahead of him, two were drafted after him, Drake Batherson at 121 and Jason Robertson at 39.
The injuries absolutely stink, but that pick was a home run.
Another bust in the organization
IEven MOST defensive dman put up points in college and their youth leagues. The fact that he can't, is pretty telling. You draft 2 way dman in the first round, not a dman that you can draft in the 5th round. Even McIlrath put up 25 points in juniors. Emery is upside is Brady Skjei. He also didn't put up points in college or younger leagues. Hope he can skate like Skjei did. Not a fan. What a ridiculous post and that's a high bar for you.
Gabe with two primary assists on Leonard goals in a 6–2 winFirst WJC prelim game for team USA against Slovakia tonight, but no broadcast sadly. Gabe will be wearing an A this year. Leonard with the C.

The Sweden v Slovakia game is on the live and upcoming section of espn + as of this morning. They are so bad at this stuff. No idea what we’ll get. I see Sweden v Kazakhstan fir Friday also. The WJC being exclusively on NHLN and TSN sucks entire ass. Put it on ESPN+ or something that more people have and actually use frequently.
Only a few games will be on ESPN this year, which is less than fine. Just wish it was the whole thing. The Sweden v Slovakia game is on the live and upcoming section of espn + as of this morning. They are so bad at this stuff. No idea what we’ll get. I see Sweden v Kazakhstan fir Friday also.
