Oh i’m not worried, i knew he was a long term project, just disappointing we cant watch him over the next 2 weeks at the tournament.

i didnt realize that not only did they cut EJE, they replaced him with 2 2nd rounders from his same draft year. That's a goddam terrible look

Emery was selected 30th. Kleber and Ralph were selected 42nd and 48th, respectively. It's not that big of a disparity.

None of the 3 have put up many points this year, but of the 3, Emery is the least physically developed. It could be that they just wanted a bit more beef on the blueline.

If Emery doesn't make the team next year, then I'll be worried.

This. I put my post about Emery being cut more tongue in cheek given all other recent events around organization than anything else.

No real impact or (re)evaluation needed.

It's a big jump from USNTDP to a top flight Div. 1 college team at 18 years old. He's been an every game player. North Dakota has turned out a number of NHL defensemen over the years. There are three in Ottawa right now--Sanderson, Kleven and Docker. It's a good place to be. he didn't make the USA WJC team.....he was in the running though. Again a coach is going to knock just be looking at guys who can put pucks in the net.....he's also going to look for guys he can fit into roles but also if he knows someone better....has coached them or tried to recruit them or met them personally before that's also an advantage. Some USA coaches had a thing about just college players---no CHL players. We don't really no everything that factors into the choices they make.

As far as expectations---moving onto the North Dakota U team at 18 and playing regularly is pretty much meeting them as far as this year goes. There are areas of his game that need to develop more. The Rangers knew that going in but Emery has had to acclimate to a significantly higher level of play and that usually takes time. He's likely going to be a defense first defenseman more than a two way defenseman. He has the speed and the frame and the inclinations where he could become a shutdown type of defenseman. He needs to put on weight and get stronger. He's 6'3 and listed at 185 lbs.---very little body fat. By the time he turns pro he'll probably need to be at least 200 but might go even heavier than that. He's playing against lots of opponents who are already that. There are multiple avenues to progress for him still. He's just a kid.

Yeah this isn't going to be like KAM where he does 2 years in college and then straight to the NHL. He'll probably need three years in the NCAA and then a year or two in the AHL.

I haven't watched him much at NoDak but when I have he looks fine. He looks like a very talented freshman, but still a freshman with a lot to work on.

Missing the WJC team is disappointing as a Rangers fan since we won't get to watch him, but not a knock on his development. At this point he's a defensive defenseman who doesn't contribute much offensively and Team USA probably felt there were better uses of those final couple spots. A lot of guys on the WJC teams never become NHL players, but they fill specific roles which is why they make it--often ahead of more talented players. Canada is maybe an exception where they used to just assemble all star teams at the expense of building out a cohesive team. At that level though you can get away with it and they don't do that as much anymore.

Yeah I could say Lundqvist is a C- but then Kakko is a C. He's done more and IMO is a better player. Lundqvist still is not really an every game player for the Stars and he was drafted the year before Kakko. Kakko is arguably better defensively than the defenseman and Nils offensive game has never really come around as hoped. His high is 19 points and he has 2 points this year. Offense was a big part of his profile before he came over. Othmann IMO is an incomplete at this point. He made a successful but not spectacular jump to the pros last year and he's been out injured since almost the beginning of the year. I think you're a little high with Chytil as a B+. It's been a long time coming with him and he still hasn't shaken the injury bug and after injuries it usually takes him time to find his complete game again.
