One thing that concerns me with Perreault is do the Rangers need another playmaking winger? I hope he shoots more this season. Rangers need more players that shoot first and pass 2ed. I hope his talent translates to pro hockey.

Rangers fans should temper their Perreault expectations. Will Smith scored 71 points in 41 games with 25 goals.

What if Perreault does that when he finally reaches the Rangers? Can't wait for fans to get impatient with him. I wonder if the Rangers will actually put him in Hartford unlike Smith who made the NHL from college.

Will Smith is struggling with the Sharks for several reasons.

1. The Sharks f***ing suck.
2. He's always been a guy who has needed a shit load of space to create his offense. He isn't very good at creating space himself and with out the talent to do the work for him there, he's had a tough go. Last I saw he wasn't getting PP1 time with the Sharks either and that would be an area where he could have done some things.

Rangers are better than the Sharks and will be able to afford Perreault a softer landing than Smith has had (he shouldn't have turned pro, that was a major snafu by his management and the Sharks FO.)

Not going to even get into how this is really just complaining to complain when there isn't anything to really complain about. Dude has been one of the top scorers in NCAA hockey since stepping into the league. If my line mate shot it like Ryan Leonard I'd try to get him the puck as much as often too.

Perreault's top assets are his puck skills and what he has between his ears. Smith has size, strength and speed over him but what makes Gabriel special is his hockey IQ......which is a gift pretty much from the gods if you believe in such things. In Gabriel's case maybe we should. That said I don't have a crystal ball. I can't predict how exactly Gabriel is going to fit right away in the organization when he turns pro but he's a different player in a lot of ways than Smith is and I don't think we should look at Smith particularly as a comparable. Gabriel seems more like a younger version of Panarin.....and if he ends up in Hartford at the end of this season I don't think he'll be there next season or at least not for long.

If the Rangers sign him after the college season (and if there are still NHL regular season games to play....because if BC gets into the final 4 again there won't be) they might sign him to an ATO to push his ELC start into next season. That's fairly likely to happen. I think the great likelihood is they won't want to burn a year just to see him in this year's playoffs.

perreault for vatrano straight up then?
I never said to sell short on him but if he was part of a bigger trade like a Brady Tkachuk, I'd consider it.

Would I trade him for Zegras, definitely not but Tkachuk is a jerk to play against. Rangers need to get away from the sorry I checked you mentality this team has after they throw a check. I can picture players like Mika, Miller etc saying sorry after a check😂😂.

Is Perrault our best not top 2 drafted prospect since Cherepanov? Another faller. How does he compare to Cherepanov? I guess Buch is up there. Stepan. Kreider.

Might be #1.

Cherepanov has an argument and Step was a terrific prospect in his own right but Perreault is a rung above where he was.

Comfortably clears Buchnevich and Kreider as prospects, though those may be the two "top" prospects who actually exceeded expectations.

It would take more than Perreault to get Brady Tkachuk and the thing is 5 years down the line Perreault might be as valuable or maybe even a little more valuable.

I know that, he would def have to be a piece going back. Rangers need to get away from this nice to play against mentality. Have some guts and heart for once

Lamb had a goal last night. He's up to 14 points in 13 games. He has 9 goals, tied for 2nd in the nation.

Laba had 2 assists, giving him 9 points in 6 games. Only 1 goal so far, and the injury set him back, but I expect he'll pick it up now that he seems to be fully healthy.

Ty Henricks had an assist. He has 3 points in 9 games, 1 goal and 2 assists.

I don't believe Ottawa will trade Tkachuk unless Tkachuk makes it clear to them he wants to leave. Moving him now would be almost telling their fans that they're tanking the rest of the season and maybe even the next couple years after. He is the face of that team and who their hopes to get better revolve around and after him it's just Stutzle.

I don't look at Panarin by the way as a player who it's nice to play against. He's a challenge for any defense in the league. If we're talking about having a tough team I'm all for it. I'm not one of those who gets up in arms when Trouba really rocks someone. If he does something I think is suspendible I'll say it but most all his hits fall along the border line of too bad for the other side. I like Rempe. I like Cuylle hitting everything that moves.

I would love if we managed to land either of the Tkachuk's but I don't think it's realistic in Brady's case unless and until Brady says he wants out. Perreault in the meantime has a chance to be huge. He is on the small side.....he's not the fastest player either but his hockey IQ is high level and because of that he's been a point producing machine in juniors and for a top level college team and for the US WJC team last year. He's not Smith though and he's not Leonard. There are significant differences in how all three of them play.

Tkachuk is not to bring his full value back to Ottawa because it’s likely be a forced trade (by Brady’s demand). In this situation most team will refuse to include their most valuable asset. 1st? Sure, Kakko, Chytil or Cuylle? Sure (probably Kakko as it would be a good PR that a former 2nd OA is coming back). Othmann? Sure. That’s 3 good pieces and maybe there will be some secondary pieces after that.
