Rico Gredig still with just 1 point in 15 NL games. I'd really like to watch him to see how he looks. The Swiss NLA, now just called the NL, has come a long way in the last 20 years. Outside of North America you obviously have the KHL and then the SHL. After that, it's probably Liiga in Finland, and then some combination of the NL, the Czech Extraliga, and the German DEL. I won't rank them but that's probably close to right.

Anyway, that's a good league he's playing in. Some of his teammates include Filip Zadina, Julius Honka, and Klas Dahlbeck. Plus other guys who have had standout European careers like Adam Tambellini, Simon Ryfors, Matej Stransky, and Andreas Ambuhl. Nico Gross is there.

It's good that he can hang in that league and on that team even if he's not producing. Still, would be nice to see him in action or hear from someone who watches him. I know as a sixth round pick, the odds are against him, but you never know.

On a side note I've been saying for a few years now I would prefer not to draft out of Liiga. Not "don't draft Finns" but don't draft out of Liiga. They are playing a different kind of game over there right now and to me, the quality seems to have dropped off a long relative to 10 or so years back when it seemed much closer to the SHL.

I would probably put NL ahead of Liiga at this point. Liiga has really dropped off in the last 5-10 years whereas NL has been on the rise. Quality players moving to Switzerland, due to the higher pay, has really resulted in a very competitive league.

Rasmus Larsson hasn't recorded a point in his first 7 games and is a scratch tonight. He does lead all UNM defensemen with 12 SOG which is also third on the team overall. Their leading scorer has 4 points in 7 games.

Unfortunately with all the turnover there this summer that team is really bad. They're 1-6 to start the season and have scored just 10 goals against 24 allowed.

I only saw his last shift in the 2nd and the entire third and pretty much every time he became involved with the puck turned out bad, including but not limited to going -2 on his first 2 shifts in the third. For instance, his first shift in the 3rd he vacated the front of the net to wander toward the puck in the corner, didn’t get there before the puck went back to where he was and Cornell scored. On another goal he vacated the front and didn’t get to the guy before he’d moved the puck and it went to the front and in, though it wasn’t scored from where he’d been. But, like I say, it’s one game.

Valid observation and I think he fell in the draft because of lack of offensive game and or including his skills with the puck. Still you saw a shift and a period? Let’s see where he’s in terms of development by the end of the season. He wouldn’t be getting well over 20 min a game as a freshman for a team that’s one of NCAA hockey powers. Based on this if I had to guess I’d say that what you saw was rather an exception, than a rule.

Yeah, been hearing nothing but positives about this kid, and not just Ranger sources. However he’s an 18 year old, he’s going to have ups and downs.

Yeah watching Emery, it's similar to watching Mancini. Like not the same stylistically, but that in both players you can see there are unrefined offensive tools there that could make them really great players if those tools are sharpened.
Original Marc Staal was like that. Such a great athlete.
