Prospect Info: 2024-2025 Rangers Prospects Thread (Prospect Stats and Info in Post #1; Updated 3.15.25)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

We're entering the NCAA hockey championship season. Next weekend four of the six conferences will have started their playoffs. The conference championships will be March 21-22 with the sixteen NCAA playoffs being announced on March 23. The four regional tournaments are held March 27-30 with the final four games on April 10 and 12

The six conference champions receive automatic bids with the at large teams being based on the ranking system. The number of at large teams depends on whether the conference champions are in the top 16 Pairwise rankings. Since the CCHA and AHA are relatively weaker conferences and neither usually has teams in the top 16 Pairwise ranking there would be at most 14 at large bids. If a team is not in the top 14 and doesn't win its conference championship its season is over. More teams could be eliminated if conference champions are not in the top 14 Pairwise rankings.

This is relevant for knowing when current Ranger NCAA prospects and potential free agents would be available to sign NHL or AHL contracts. I'll address potential free agents in another post.

Four prospects are certain to make the NCAA playoffs base on the Pairwise rankings:

1. Boston College -- Fortescue and Perrault
3. Minnesota -- Lamb
5. Western Michigan -- Hendricks

All of the other prospects teams are not currently in the top 14 Pairwise rankings and will have their season's end unless their teams win their conference championship.

18-19 North Dakota -- Emery
23. Northeastern -- Dorrington
26. Cornell -- Kempf
32. Colorado College -- Laba
42. Harvard -- Karpa
62. Northern Michigan -- Larson

Kempf and Karpa are seniors and would become free agents if not signed before August 15. The Rangers recently have brought most of their draft picks into the organization if only with an AHL contract.

Virtually certain signees when their seasons end are Perrault and Laba.

Potential signees in my opinion are Fortescue and Dorrington.

Only four teams will be left by the end of March so well the Rangers approach to most of the picks. by then.

where are you getting the Laba definite signing from?

I don't think there's anything out there other than speculation. The Rangers tried to sign him last summer, so there's obvious interest from their side, and I don't see a compelling reason why Laba would say no. His team isn't likely to be significantly better next year if he stays. Maybe he decides he wants to finish his degree first, but hockey is where he hopes to make his money right now. Lots of guys do 3 years and then finish their degrees through summer courses and whatnot.

cool didn't know if there was a specific news item.

between laba, roobroeck, sykora, bmb, chmelar, i think the expectation of 1-2 nhl regulars is reasonable. depth guys with size/physicality.

I forgot to add Lamb as a potential signee.

GAGline said exactly how I would have answered.

BC's last game is this Saturday 1pm vs Merrimack

Colorado has 2 games left vs Denver Fri/Sat at 7pm and 6pm

Big Ten tournament starts this weekend - Minnesota plays Notre Dame in a BO3 Fri, Sat and potentially Sun (8pm Fri & Sat, 7pm Sun)

NoDak has 2 games vs Omaha Fri/Sat at 6:36pm and 6:07pm as per NoDak's site and not a second sooner

Northeastern (Jackson Dorrington, LD that came over in the Miller trade) has 2 games left vs Merrimack tonight at 7pm, and vs Providence on Sat at 7:15pm

Reposting from the other thread for those interested:

Laba with the ENG as Col College beats Denver in Game 1 of the NCHC quarterfinal (best of 3). CC is way far down the pairwise rankings, so the only way they would get into the Frozen Four is by winning the conference tournament. Otherwise their season will be over. Hopefully the Rangers can get Laba signed and to the AHL whenever CC's season ends.

Laba scored again last night but CC lost 6-3. Game 3 is today. CC has to win to keep their Frozen Four hopes alive.

ND and Emery moved on to the next round of the NCHC playoffs. He didn't have any points last night.

Perreault and BC lost 3-1 which knocks them out of the Hockey East playoffs. He had an assist. Dorrington didn't have any points for Northeastern.

Emery didn't play again.

Boilard had an assist. I haven't watched him this season but he's actually on pace to score slightly less than he did last year, which is disappointing.
