2024-2025 Prospect Watch

Lanky I hope you are right :) Cooley was a no brainer, luckily he dropped to us. Gunner was an incredible draft pick.

Cooley was a no brainer in hindsight only.
Passing on Shane Wright was a big deal and Bill deserves credit.
I thought for sure BA would select Wright, who by the way is having a pretty good year on a horrible team. While I'm more than happy with Cooley, Wright might end up the best of them all.

Congrats to Tanner Ludtke who is finally playing and he was supposed to miss the entire season, so really good news that he's playing.

Moroz has been on fire lately, really hope we get him signed and bring him over, supposedly another player with an incredible shot.

Also of note, Biber is 18yrs old, but just played his 50th game in the SHL and supposedly is starting to play big minutes for his team at age 18, wow!...might be a late round (4th round) gem

Good to luck to all the Utah HC prospects playing in the NCAA tournament. Should be a fun one this year.

March 27th:
Jonathan Castagna (Cornell) takes on Michigan St. at 5:30pm (ESPN+)
Michael Hrabal (UMass) takes on Cal Thomas (Minnesota) at 8:30pm (ESPN2)

March 28th:
Will Skahan (BC) takes on Bentley at 2:00pm (ESPNU)

Just came across the hockey writers team prospect rankings. Even with all our picks we are 8th. And that's with a healthy Iggy. Is this where we should be?

. 8 Utah Hockey Club

Previous Ranking: 9

Top Five Prospects: Tij Iginla, Cole Beaudoin, Dmitri Simashev, Daniil But, Maveric Lamoureux

The Arizona Coyotes are no more, and in their place, the Utah Hockey Club makes holds their spot on this list. The team showed some improvement last year despite still finishing 27th in the league, largely due to the continued excellence of Clayton Keller, and both Logan Cooley and Matias Maccelli shining as solid supporting pieces. While the team wasn’t ready to emerge from the league’s basement quite yet, they’ve significantly improved the team with the addition of Mikhail Sergachev in a trade from the floor of the 2024 Draft.

Under new ownership, the Utah Hockey Team looks poised to take a serious step forward next season, hopefully ducking the dark clouds that have been circling the franchise for many years. Drafting Tij Iginla will certainly help push the team in that direction. His game relies heavily on speed and he’s able to do a ton of damage on the rush at the junior level because of it. Iginla has an excellent wrist shot as well, but he isn’t the most gifted playmaker or physical guy. Regardless, he works hard and is often the first guy in on the forecheck.

The Hockey News FUTURE WATCH has Utah ranked 5th. Iginla is ranked 10th overall and Simashev 20th.

Now is that good for tanking the last 5 years?
For their rankings Utah is a -2 meaning our rank is 2 positions worse than our draft average position.

Utah are one of the youngest teams in the league with key players playing top roles:
Cooley
Guenther
Hayton
Doan

Plus draft depth used to acquire the entire D core.

I said at the time of the draft, GM Bill will be judged on his Simashev / But picks
