Blazing fast forward who has rocks for brains offensively but can win draws with his eyes closed?

I honestly don't think you'd have to look long for a taker. Guys like that can be super valuable come the postseason. This is the same league where Paul Gaustad went for a first round pick, for some reason many moons ago at the deadline.

It wouldn't be a big haul by any means but there's probably something out there.

Tampa certainly don't muck around. Zero compromise or half-measures through 2019-22. All about the Cup in the here and now. Then they tailed off in the last couple of years and were a bit quieter, and I think it was generally thought their run was done. Clearly though BriseBois has sniffed the wind and decided they have a real shot again this year. And he might well be right.

Panthers are still good but beatable and quite possibly will tire, rest of the east all have question marks. West has some strong teams but it could be a war that will leave the last man standing quite burnt out by the finals. Bolts are the hottest team in the league right now, still have the Vasilevskiy factor. They're as good a chance as anyone I'd say.

Florida just beat them so I am sure that helped push Brisbois to this.They paid a big price.

They did. Think it would be very tight over the course of a series though.

And yeah, steep, too steep for this particular return it feels like, but this is the Tampa way and it gets results. Perhaps they have overcommitted this time to no purpose, but wouldn't bet against them.

NEWARK, N.J. — Devils leading scorer Jack Hughes had shoulder surgery and is out for the season, a blow to the team’s hopes of making a playoff run.

The team said Hughes had surgery on his right shoulder in Vail, Colo., on Wednesday after tests and conversations with his family, agent and medical staffs. The expectation is that he will be ready for training camp.

Hughes, 23, was injured when he slammed into the boards after getting tangled up with Golden Knights center Jack Eichel late in New Jersey’s 2-0 loss at Vegas on Sunday night.

The Devils put Hughes on long-term injured reserve, a roster move that gives them some space to use against the salary cap before the NHL trade deadline on Friday.



Devils coach Sheldon Keefe was fined $25,000 by the NHL on Wednesday for unprofessional conduct toward officials that led to his ejection Sunday after Hughes was injured.
 

The Rangers are reportedly one of the likeliest landing spots for Mikko Rantanen at the NHL trade deadline. As the Athletic's Arthur Staple notes, New York has several iterations of a deal they can offer the Hurricanes that'd meet Carolina's asking price.

Alexis Lafrenière would be the main piece heading back to Raleigh in the deal. Figuring out the rest would be Chris Drury's job.

The package going back to Carolina would likely have to center around Alexis Lafrenière, whose seven-year extension kicks in next season. Lafrenière has 35 points in 62 games and is one of the many Rangers who have underperformed this season. But he's still just 23 and might be a fit in Carolina's system," Staple wrote.

"The Canes would also ask for Gabe Perreault, the Rangers' top forward prospect, who's likely to turn pro after Boston College's season is done next month. That's a big return, but if Rantanen is willing to sign - possibly even an eight-year deal with the Canes ahead of a sign-and-trade - that's one of the 15 best players in the league locked up on the Rangers roster.

"If the Rangers could substitute Brennan Othmann for Perreault, that package plus either their 2025 or 2026 first-round pick - the one that isn't going to the Pittsburgh Penguins via the Vancouver Canucks as part of the J.T. Miller trade - could be a winning offer among the few teams bidding."

Getting Laf back would actually be a halfway decent recovery by Carolina imo.

He's not as good as Rantanen, or Necas for that matter but he's young and locked up long term which essentially solves the issue that started this whole trade chain to start with.
