Good news, Yakemchuk can skate. You realize these are not 0 or 1, binary attributes, right? There are literally hundreds of guys in the NHL who can't skate like Ceci and not many of them have the size and puck skills of Yakemchuk.
Okay.

If he thinks the game like Cody Ceci it doesn’t matter how great he is with the puck.

Cecis only strength is his skating. Take that away and I don’t care what he could do with the puck.

Ceci is really not as bad as he is being portrayed on this board, which is obviously influenced by his last 3 seasons in Ottawa as one of the most used shutdown D-man in the league (which should have never happened, but we had no one outside of Methot on LD)

He's an average player and has had good seasons when he was not being asked to play above his role level ability, as a #4-5 D-man. Some people think Jfresh stuff is automatically crap but this is bang on :

He's not an OFD, he's not a shutdown D, he's a 2-way 3rd pairing D-man who can fill on your 2nd pair with a good puck mover. Sometimes it's about using players correctly as well, and that's where coaching and management play a role.

You can do much much worse with your 3rd pairing RHD (hmmm Travis hmmm Hamonic). Note that Ceci's card is mostly built on being asked to play 2nd pairing or above.

I watched Ceci enough.

He remade himself as a number 4/5 guy.

Great. Making how much? Too much for the role he successfully “remade” himself into.

I need Yakemchuk to be better than an overpaid guy who “remade himself into a 4/5”

That card seems to recognize his horrible defence.

i think Chychrun is a much better comp for Yakemchuk than Ceci. I was very impressed with how comfortable he looked in the preseason. I know it was preseason but still.. he instantly looked like he belonged.

Depends, he made 1.25 AAV in 2020-21 and then 3.25 AAV x 4 years, it's around the price for veterans #5 RHDs

His defense always got better when his role got reduced, which is what I tried to explain you already. Ceci is going to be fine on your 3rd pairing but outmatched on a 1st pairing, there's really not more than that.

And of course we'll need Yakemchuk to be better, I was not participating in that part of the discussion
