Our three cup finals years I’m pretty sure we sucked at draws so it’s weird but yeah logic says it’s better to win face offs than to lose them

It’s actually impressive how Florida shut down opposing star players with such consistency and apparent ease.

The loss of Stolarz sure didn’t help Toronto either.
When you are relentless on the forecheck and use big bodies to wear down the other teams you win. When you cheap shot the other teams stars and accidentally make head contact with other teams star players repeatedly and knock them out of the playoffs you win. Why Toronto and the bolts were too scared to do the same is beyond me.

Pearl clutching is the surest way to see your season end early, but I keep trying to find a way that doesn't involve deliberate headshots. The league doesn't really do anything about it. Maybe the player gets kicked and suspended a game or two. As a calculation, the trade is worth it.

I'm more interested at the moment in being sort of merry pranksters. Good at chirping and just being a handful. Perry and Maroon did this pretty well. They'd find ways to chirp opponents, or just be kind of petty and annoying, but in a way that's respectable.

Dirty plays shouldn’t be part of the game nor a necessity to win. Hockey is a contest of skill and team work. I certainly wouldn’t want my team actively looking to injure in order to get an advantage. Unfortunately you have some players pushing the limits and the league’s inconsistency and/or incompetence in policing the game (via penalties, fines, suspensions) almost incentivize this.

The moment the rat pack knocked out Hagel and stolarz both teams should have did the same to them since the same. An eye for eye and a tooth for a tooth.

IMO, the year they beat us, they liked like they had no heart. They should have demolished us that year, and we stayed alive through sheer will.

That feels more apt for 2022. They were better than us overall but couldn't bury us and let us hang around long enough for Nick Paul to beat them.

I dunno if we were the better team roster-wise in 2023 but our on-ice play in that series was better than them. We lost that series because Vasi was absolute garbage. We should've won that series in five games, we led in the final minute of Game 3 and had a 3-goal lead with less than 10 minutes left in Game 4. More than any series, that's one that Vasi lost almost entirely by himself (2019 was a team effort).

Man the Leafs couldn't get it done even after having a great start to the series.

Vegas' star players just did an even worse disappearing act than ours. None of their top five regular season scorers scored a goal against Edmonton. Getting blanked twice in a row by Stuart f***ing Skinner has to sting like hell.

They should've done a few more LTIRs. Not enough imo.

That's what I'm saying about 2023. We WEREN'T as good as them. But they lacked a lot of heart. They squeaked by when they should have crushed us.

Agreed. We didn't win 2 Cups Back to Back with that BS. Granted, we had Downie and Tucker (small but pushed the envelope)), in earlier days, but our Cups were never cheapshot/headhunters. RIG and Pears were strong agitators, but kept it in control.

They f***ing suck and Colorado is on that path too with Mackinnon/Makar.
I remember the Boudreau years when the Caps lost year after year with a stacked team - much like San Jose in the other conference. I’m not saying it was a coaching issue but some cores just don’t have it in them.

There is still a difference between the Caps and Avs who at least won a cup and say San Jose during the Thornton/Marleau era and the current Leafs who never won.

No but we had guys that were physical, would finish their checks, instigate the other team, and could throw hands if needed on all teams. Roy, Dingman, Taylor, Vinny, Maroon, Coleman, goodrow, perry, schenn, and Bogosian just to name a few we had. Now we got a bunch of softies and understood players in the bottom 6 that inflict pain with their bodies or intimidate anyone .

Stars gotta be in Ruh Row mode. Hellapuck regaining some form. Jets looking like the team that kicked everybody's ass in reg season. Lets see what happens in big D.

Hellebuyck already had a shutout in Game 2, didn't do much good in the two games that followed. Jets are 0-5 away this postseason, so they have a hurdle to overcome. I'm expecting both these series to finish in 6.
