2024 2025 Injury Thread Hf’s Longest Thread Just Got Longer

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

He's at 27 goals scored and is 3 goals away from equalizing John Slaney's record of 30. 4 away from breaking it.
Reminds of Crash Davis in Bull Durham.

I've often wondered about the guys that make a career out of the minors and how they prepare themselves for that mentally... I mean, dudes a f***ing all-star at one level but can't nail down a bottom pair job at the next. Seems like that would be really tough mentally. But then again... AHL salaries aren't exactly putting one at the poverty level either.

EJ looked like he tweaked both his ankles last game. Before the game started. He looked slow against MTL.
We probably burned through whatever he had left in the tank already. He wasn't supposed to play every game.

Not trading for an additional dman at the deadline is already starting to bite CMac in the ass.

Yeah was worried about that with EJ. He wasn't skating quite the same last game, and had a rough first shift. Saw him talking to Matt Sokolowski to start one of the periods too.

Just call up MacDonald. Don't force EJ or Girard to play. They're likely not catching Dallas anyway.

It's too bad they don't have Behrens available as an option.

Reactions: Colorado Avalanche
They called up MacDonald and they're still playing G?

Bednar specifically said with their depth they don't have to rush guys or play them when not healthy. He couldn't even finish practice yesterday in a no contact jersey right?

I know they don't have that same depth on D, but he should at least be aware of that issue. It's even more important with the D men IMO.

They're 5 points behind Dallas who's playing fairly well right now at 6-2-2, and has a game in hand on the Avs, with only 11 games left. It would be a shock if they passed them.

They're also 4 points up on Minny, with the same games played, and Minny playing very average lately at 5-4-1. Meanwhile the Avs are 8-1-1.

Just rest Girard and EJ and play MacDonald. I like Bednar but this is one of those headscratchers that makes no sense, like how much he plays Makar in games where it won't make a difference.

Bednar made that pretty obvious in the presser this morning. He was asked if MacDonald would play tonight and he just said “No” and then had a shit-eating grin on his face

Sometimes I wonder what the f*** happened between those two.

Bednar cuts him right away in training camp and sends him down. The odd time that CMac has called him up, Bednar would honestly rather play short a D than f***ing use MacDonald.

Meanwhile, the guy is a leader for the Eagles and is close to breaking the goals scored record for a defenseman.

It can’t just be that he doesn’t listen to Bednar’s instructions. They must’ve had a tat at some point.

He showed Mrs. Bednar his "wrist watch"

MacDonald is super weird to me. He obviously has NHL level skating yet outside of the Avs he's mustered 61 total NHL games, and the games he played here were out of sheer necessity and half the time as a forward.

Then he chooses to come back to the Avs AHL squad likely knowing he won't get a sniff in the NHL because of who the coach is.

You would think his agent could find him a team in the NHL to play for or at least be a 7D on so he's earning more money.

He's not that good defensively, but I'm guessing he just yolo'd one too many times, when he should have made the safer play.

He got a hefty AHL salary though. $775k in NHL and $525k in AHL.

I think he's made Colorado home with his wife. That's probably a big part too.

"when I found out I had an option to come back, my wife and I spent the summers here,” MacDonald said. “So this is home for us. And had an option: come back and stay at home. It was a pretty easy decision.”

It's because he played "Get a haircut and do your f***ing job" by George Thorogood and the Destroyers in the locker-room the day after Nate told Bednar off.
