Injury Report: 2024-2025 Injury thread | HF’s Longest Thread Just Got Longer

It would make absolutely no difference to the team, but if they force Landy to retire, I'll just go back to being a fan of the league like I was for the first 3 or 4 years I got into hockey.
Forcing him to retire would stop the paychecks to him. If he stays on LTIR for the rest of his contract he gets paid. Lando will never retire unless there’s some type of arrangement including cash to go with it.

If the Avs force him to retire then I’ll probably disown the kroenkes forever. I already think they’re cheap but this would put me over the top.

If you want him off the books, he retires and you pay out the reminder of it in a front office/coaching role.

Sounds like that's what Luongo did.

They won’t do that since Insurance is likely paying Landeskog for his injury. Your way would make the Avs actually pay out his money.

If they want him off the books and he's still trying, they are wrong. It can not be any more simple than that. This man destroyed his f***ing body to bring the cup back to Colorado. You do NOT tell him to stop.

No, wasn't suggesting that. I spent the first part of the day telling people Landeskog can and will do whatever he wants.

There are so many people saying he is done and he should retire...

None of them know how his rehab has gone or how he feels right now. Everyone is speculating based on little to no information, outside the people that know him best.

The people that know like CMac seem unsure, but believe in him, while Gabe keeps saying he'll be back.

Both Gabe and CMac know they gave fans too much hope the last time about a playoff return. Seems doubtful they'd do that again.

I'm just stuck on the pain part.

I get it, hockey and basketball are different but it has to be extremely alarming that Landeskog cannot skate pain free while Lonzo Ball has been reportedly pain free for a very long time and everything is back to normal for him.

It's concerning for sure. Especially in terms of how long he'll play if he does make a comeback.

Regardless, until the day his contract expires... he should be allowed to attempt a comeback. I'm not asking for him to be given two more attempts afterwards ala Foppa.... but give him the contract he's under. Not only does he legally deserve that... a good way to destroy what little reputation the Avs have around the league would be to treat Landeskog poorly here.

Under no circumstances should the Avs "force" him out. If he decides he's done, that is an entirely other conversation. But until he says, no mas.. the dude has earned the right to try.

And I'll still be here until the end of the of 2029/30 saying he has a place on the team.

Are you saying he doesn't?

I agree with the premise for sure. But why do the Avs have “little reputation” when it comes to how they treat their players?

I doubt they would. CMac has said multiple times, including the recent presser that Gabe has earned the right to try and come back.

Also, it seems doubtful they'd release that doc before the playoffs if they thought he might not come back.

You know he and the team must have signed off on this, and that's definitely not something the Avs would sign off on lightly. Especially after giving fans too much hope the last time.

If this it's as revealing as it sounds about the mental and physical struggles of his rehab, and he does come back in the playoffs, good luck to everyone else matching the motivation the Avs are gonna have to win.

He can play a few games in a lesser role, win another Cup, then sail off into the sunset, and hand the C to Makar if he wants to. Sounds like a nice goal to strive for if he doesn't think the knee can hold up long term.

How many playeres do you see jumping at the opportunity to come to Colorado?

They have a very well known reputation for being extremely cheap on everything outside of payroll for the players.

Sure. How many players do you see jumping at the opportunity to go anywhere outside of tax free and sunshine state teams? New York I suppose.

They may be cheap with some things as a franchise but the paycheck, along with competitiveness, is inarguably the biggest concern for the average player and the Avs have been very fair on almost all of their contract negotiations that we know of. I’m pretty sure perks like provided game day meals are nice but not a major for most.

I mean playing basketball on a hard court is not conducive to any knee either, especially not for a knee which went through this surgery and recovery.

So either the AVS and Landeskog play a masterful LTIR-Game and the captain leads his team into Game 1, Round 1 and takes out Benn in his first shift, or, and thats my take, it was a "bridge too far" for Landeskog and its, sadly, over.....

However, there has to be a final solution.

And that final solution should not happen one day before June 30th, 2030... unless Gabe asks for it.
