Speculation: 2024-2025 General Lightning Discussion IV

i get that everyone here loves Thompson but there is literally a 0% chance that Buffalo trades one of their 2 actual elite players, who's locked up to a long-term, team-friendly deal for anything that we have or have had.

like the ask would actually start with like hagel cirelli+

I think Buffalo would listen if Point is involved. I don't think they'd do it straight up, but that's a starting point.

Someone mentioned the other day Point has become a Kucherov merchant and it does seem like it. He had so many opportunities to drive the net this series and just curled back. Bizarre. Sick of seeing that type of hockey.

I think you would need to hold Point's family hostage to get him to waive his nmc to go to Buffalo

I think given the teams state some players might be willing for a change of scenery. Plus when a team tells you they don't want you anymore why stick around at that point?

sure but not to go to buffalo, and even if we do trade Point we likely aren't getting a 1c back unless it's Petterson who this board would absolutely despise

I mean they went from 23rd in ga/g last year to 4th this year, so I don't know if that's a huge issue. I think a coaching change is possible, but it's likely withnthe assistants this summer. If Cooper still can't get them past the 1st round next year with some new players and assistants, then his contract is up anyway and perhaps it's not renewed.
Yes, dramatic turn around in the regular season, but didn't carry over to the postseason, as we're tied with NJ for 5th worst GA per game in the playoffs. FL has gotten so many high danger chances against us, players standing alone all in front of Vasy with time to pick their shot - we've given up more and better chances against than FL. Neither the regular season offensive or defensive improvement carried over, except for games 2 and 3, where I think we were better than them, but only got one win. Tonight was pretty even, but we gave up higher quality chances against again, and it bit us.

Yeah, it was a bad series from the guys they had to have show up. When Kuch Point, Cirelli, Hagel, and Paul do very little, and Bjork is injured, they aren't beating anyone. There are only 4 dmen I would prefer to see back next season as well, as none of Raddysh, Perbix nor Lilleberg are good enough. I'm sure at least one of Raddysh/Lilleberg will be back, but I'd hope to see Crozier get promoted, add a young dman in a Howard trade, and if Cirelli gets moved, maybe try and get someone like Andersson, or use his space to add someone via ufa.

Unfortunately, moving him creates a big hole at 2C, and there's no one else on tbe roster able to fill it imo. JBB would need to add one via ufa, and cap space is limited. I still think the bottom 6 group is addressed, with at least 2 new forwards brought in through who can play 3rd or 4th line minutes, as well as a couple of new depth dmen. Hopefully, one of them will be able to give McD a little less ice time, maybe Hedman as well.

Moving out the assistants seems most likely, but Cooper leaving also wouldn't shock me. What would surprise me greatly is if JBB actually asks any of Point, Kuch, Hagel, Hedman, Vasy, McD or Cwrnak to waive their trade protection. I just don't see him blowing up the core this summer, despite the disappointment of this result.
