Speculation: 2024-2025 General Lightning Discussion IV

Panthers beat Leafs in regulation, which is big for Tampa. If they get a regulation win over Toronro tomorrow, they tale over 1st and control their own fate for the division.

For some reason I was thinking W's was the tie breaker, not regulation wins.

i just want an avatar that is just a gif of kucherov not giving a shit at the ASG and then a zoom in on macdavid's face when he realizes no one cares about his obstacle course.

Maybe I shouldn't be so bullish. But with Gauthier and Howard joining the system combined with Geekie maturing and Goncalves effectively graduating, I like our depth options going forward. If we could get Pylenkov over from Russia too, it would be the most organizational depth we have had in some time.

I try not to get too hung up on Stamkos but holy shit would we be dangerous if he came back. I mean yeah he isn't like super great but the guy's demise is overblown

Yep it will be bloodbath for fighting for top 9 spot. If we resign Gourde we will have like 1-2 spots (If we dont get anyone at offseason) for Geekie,Howard, Goncalves,Chaffee, eve Brown if he stays healthy can get a shot. And I said top 9 cuz none of those players maybe except Brown, should play at 4th line. None of them will effective at 4th line. At 4th line we will have Girgs, Gleandenning (if he stays) and I hope we can sign some tough player there

I think Gourde will ultimately end up being a 4th line center next season and the bolts will try to build an identity line with Girgensons & maybe someone like Aube-Kubel? I think going all in with a defense first, physical, grinding, 4th line makes a lot of sense given how much skill we have up the lineup.

One aspect of all these younger players that is a little precarious is that there is a lot of redundancy, with all being left shot. Considering the holes in our lineup I wouldn't be opposed if the Lightning move some of their young talent for other players who don't really have a fit in their org that better fit our needs - a couple that stick out are: Kesselring (Utah RD - big, physical 2-way right shot defenseman that looks to be the odd man out), Maccelli (Utah LW - he's left shot but seems like a fantastic buy low candidate), or Bourque (Dallas RW - prime offer-sheet candidate - I think this kid would be perfect to round out the Hagel/Cirelli line).

I'm back fellas, just in time for the playoffs. Life has been absolutely terrible the last year or so, so I have watched probably... 1 hockey game this season?

What's up this year? Just looking at the roster I'd imagine bad D and no depth on F (though the deadline helped). Guentzel has worked out well by the looks. And we got Gourde back, how's he been looking?

@Stammertime91 , give it to me straight.

Ying to my yang.
The horse to my carrots.
The leprechaun at the bottom of my rainbow.
The gum in Coopers pocket.
My goat, welcome back.

Sorry to hear it's been a rough year.

As for the Bolts, Girgensons sucks. He drools, is clueless, does virtually nothing every stride. Uhhh, we traded one trick pony wraparound guy Eyssimont. Gourde looks very good. Bjorkstrand is off to a bit of a slow start, maybe he's shy, a lot of men face that problem so it's alright. Kuch is kuch. Vasy looks great again. McDad came home with the milk and looks very good (except getting danced on by Marner last night). Moser aka young Gretzky aka young Stamkos has been up and down. Liabilityberg is having a bad stretch. Raddysh is still bald but he's been fine. Cirelli has had a career year and fed me some crow. Howard is the big talk on the forum as of right now.

Overall we have a shot this year but it's going to take a huge effort to get to the ECF.

Lilleberg stats this season...

Games played: 72
Points: 18
Rating: -1
PIM: 103
TOI/G: 15:12

What surprised me is his -1 rating, I expected -15 or more. This means he's defending pretty well, with an average TOI of 15 mins a game, considering he's very young and only has 109 NHL games. He can become a very good defenseman in a couple of years.

Half of his PIMs are fights and a 10 min misconduct. Some 50 are minors, that's not a big deal, other players are up there as well including Kucherov and Hagel.

Lilleberg still delivers some big hits, but said he's here to play hockey, not fight. If necessary he's mostly just defending himself. But he's been asked to play a physical game, he's aware of that so we'll see if he picks it up again.

So I'd say it's hard to see him as a liability, as some fans think. Cooper really likes him and said he can see a big upside. Some rookie mistakes are to be expected.

Look, I get that he's from your country and all but to say he's not a liability at the moment is just not squaring with reality. It's fair to say he's still young and should trend upward, but it's also fair to say he hasn't been consistent. He gets beaten a lot and turns the puck over in his end far too much. Based off his stat line, sure, he's fine. Watching the game and recognizing him and Perbix are weak links on the back end are also fair assessments.
