Speculation: 2024-2025 General Lightning Discussion IV: Delete This XenForo!

We just tied Toronto in points and sit 2nd in the Atlantic, 4 points behind Florida (with a game in hand).

Ottawa is 7-2-1 in their last 10, has won 6 straight and is 4 points behind us and the Leafs.

This is gonna be one of the more interesting season ending stretches in recent times.
The Atlantic is just so clogged right now. The younger teams are starting to gain some ground on the old guard. From our cold, dead hands.

Ottawa is not a team I'd want to play in round 1. Atlantic winner is pretty much guaranteed to face the top wild card, which is likeliest to be the Sens right now. They have an easy schedule too. I don't see any safe matchups out there, unless New Jersey continues to lose and somehow gets supplanted by the Rangers or Jackets.

Florida and Toronto are the top tier, but Ottawa will have that momentum and excitement of finally getting in, plus Brady Tkachuk playoff debut. Something about them scares me a bit.

At this point I'd almost lean toward the Panthers considering Tkachuk could be rusty/not 100% and Ekblad will miss the first 2. Metro division is very lucky.

I agree, not a lot of teams I’d feel comfortable going against. Even Columbus could surprise us badly. Rangers are just a red hot Shesterkin away from upsetting a favorite too. It’s all a coin toss really.

If anything the Metro teams like Washington, Carolina or NJ look beatable but it would take precision maneuvering and luck to face them early.

I'll take anyone other than Florida round 1, and I don't want to face Washington if we get that far. No team is going to be a cakewalk, but some teams are going to take a pound of flesh with them even if they lose.

There's no easy path this season to the Cup (not that there is one most seasons). Both conferences are fairly stacked at the top, with each having 4 or 5 teams that wouldn't surprise most if they make it to the SCF. Regardless of who Tampa has to go through, it will take thelr best to win it all. The difference between last year and this year though, imo, is that this team has a realistic chance of hoisting the Cup at the end.

We gotta be peak performance for 20-25 games. Can we do it?

Nick Paul now gives us six 20 goal scorers, that leads the league. Bjorkstrand has 17. Three...soon to be four 30 goal scorers also leads the league

Tax free states doing it right.
I kind of feel the poll should remove team success (as impossible as that is). The teams that are good also seem to have the good owners according to the poll. Being at the bottom of their cycle doesn't mean the owners got bad, too.

I was joking really. I think owners that have grown hockey in non-traditional markets get bonus points, and deservedly so. In some cases, like ours, they have pulled teams from the brink of destruction.

My lineup God willing

Hagel-Point-Kucherov
Howard*-Paul-Guentzel
Bjorkstrand-Cirelli-Gourde
Goncalves*-Glendening-Girgensons

Chaffee can draw in as necessary

*- Goncalves would regularly swap into the line. He has had some very good looking moments with Jake if I remember correctly. Howard can have PP2 time

McDonagh-Moser**
Hedman-Cernak
Lilleberg-Raddysh

Perbix can draw in for our 11/7 nights

Vasilevskiy
Johansson

** - I would favor McDonagh carrying the load because Hedman is gonna run PP1 and I'm more inclined to give Moser more responsibilities than Cernak

Oh yeah. And I'm done with loading the top line with Jake and Kucherov. And I'm beyond done with the idea of Cirelli being a regular source of offense. This 2 or 3 goals on 20 to 30 games gimmick he does every year (and yes... it is every year) has me ready to hope maybe Paul and Guentzel can get something more consistent. Screw it. Let Tony grind. I'm not sweating goals anymore

Wtf is Howard going to do, he's a worse prospect than Geekie and people are suggesting we throw him into the lineup for a cup run.
Idk. Play him and see how it goes? I didn't think it was necessary to spell it out that he would have to be more successful than Geekie. If he sucks you don't dress him. It honestly won't take that long to find out
