Lou is pretty stubborn but if you an get Palmieri for less than a 1st I suppose I wouldn't be opposed - I just think given our cap situation being in a good place right now (and our needs being very identifiable for the off season) it's a lot more likely he packages the 1st and other picks for a younger player with term or with rfa status like he tends to do at the deadline.
The rub that’s in Lou’s favor is there is not a lot of competition for rentals. But outside of Toffoli off the top of my head it’s rare for a top six wing to get a first as a rental

I'm officially all the way there on the idea that if he has value, we should trade Chaffee and upgrade the 3rd line. Chaffee is a great story, love the guy, but we just need to be better there.

Hope Howard gets some time there to end the season once he signs after State is done.

And you saying Palmieri is some small player isn't going to convince anyone. He's a skilled RW that would fit in the top 6, regardless of whether he's 33 or 28 or if he's actually 5'11, which he's listed as most places. Tampa probably feels pretty set with the top 6 they have, so ultimately, he's likely a less sought after target anyway. Players like Goodrow and Coleman were also viewed as overpays/reaches by more than a few, especially given the price JBB paid, but when paired with Gourde, they gave Tampa exactly what they needed.

If Paul stays at 3C, and they're happy with the top 6, acquiring 2 of these types, which this season likely include players like Gourde, Evans, Armia. Donato, maybe guys like Drew O'Connor, Luke Evangelista, Tyson Foester, Morgan Frost etc could also be these types that JBB may try and put an enticing offer to pry away from their current teams.

As long as they feel confident in Geekie as someone that can at least be effective as 3RW (thereby putting Paul.at 2RW), they can just focus on adding two 3rd line guys to solidify that line. The 4th line, especially configured as Ace-Glendening-Girgensons/Chaffee, is solid enough in their role this season.
To me the biggest hole on the team is quite easily 2RW. Geekie looks a year or two away from being a consistent top 6 player. I think we are gonna find a forward at the TDL. With a little luck it won't be a pure rental and we can bring them back under a higher cap.

These are the top 32 lines in the NHL as of right now in xGF%...

Hagel-Cirelli listed twice in the top 25, and Guenztel-Point-Kucherov is not. Our fourth line is also 20th?? The goals they should have by now I guess, instead of their modest total of four. That really is a head scratcher.... I don't find myself saying "there's was another missed scoring opportunity by the fourth line" game after game.

I would definitely trade Goncalves or Ace before Chaffee. Chaffee actually provides offense and tilts the ice.

On that note, I believe everyone should be available including Geekie in the right deal.

Its because Guentzel-Point-Kucherov make magic out of nothing and finish. But in general, when it comes to most chances on ice, the rest are doing better.

Hol' up buckaroo. Who are we getting in return for Geekie? We didn't even give an asset like that up for Hagel.

Sky is the limit, I kept my response purposefully ambiguous

Unless we are getting a Marchenko or a 20+ goal scorer with 2+ years left, no reason to trade Geekie
We are marginally better with Geekie and Gage than we are with Chaffee.

A lot of advanced stats ignore linemates. I am not eager to trade Geekie, I am just saying he is not untouchable if the right deal presents itself

agree he isnt untouchable but it would cost a hell of a lot to get him out of Tampa. so unless we get a proven right handed 20+ goal scorer under 25 years old that has some term left at a reasonable cap hit for us, i dont see it happening. unless someone offered a top prospect like Silayev/Eiserman/Yurov and a roster player to slot in the bottom 6

I understand and agree. I would replace under 25 with “nice contract” though

I can smell what you're cooking. That makes sense. If we didn't have Guentzel already I would say the move makes sense if that's the kind of target you're after. I don't get sentimental about rookies and prospects unless its something like Geekie humming at like 20 points already or Howard is at a goal per game. If that's the case you have a great player already. Otherwise just get your guy and win and stop pulling your hair out that your 19 year old MIGHT be as good in 5 years as the dude you can have by tomorrow morning

Gage and Chaffee are the same line? So what's your point. Advanced stat states Gage is marginally better than Chaffee
