Geekie has the potential to be a #1 C and is the best prospect TB's had in years, that trade would be insane. Tuch is a good player but that is a massive overpayment.

Did you miss the inclusion of Byram, who's producing and being utilized like a #1 defenseman at the ripe old age of 23? +8 on a negative goal differential team, .5ppg despite getting very little PP time.

Pretending Byram and Geekie are a wash for a second, that's effectively two seconds and a 1st for Tuch, a #1 forward signed cheaply for the next two years. This sets us up nicely for the next two years go go on cup runs, with the cap space to re-sign them at the end of the season.

If anyone doesn't touch the trade it's Buffalo.

I did see his inclusion, there were also comments implying that the value would be fair without him so I kind of grouped things together on that one. Byram has nice upside but a bit of a concerning history with concussions iirc. I'm not sold on him ever reaching his full potential, although his ceiling is high. Gauthier, a 1st and another moderate + would be closer to fair value for Tuch imo. Geekie would be tough to part with anyways, let alone adding another top prospect and/or high pick.

Historically, trading your # 1 and #~3 prospect along with a first rounder + is more in line with a trade for a true star.

--I guess my main point is that I wouldn't want to lose Geekie in a trade for Tuch, despite the good fit.

Yeah I definitely wouldn’t give up that whole package just for Tuch. Take out Geekie and it’s still an overpay but not crazy IMO. I think we are in agreement

It would be very difficult for Tampa to make the cap work with adding both Tuch and Byram. I'd remove Gauthier and maybe the 2nd for Tuch alone. While I think Geekie has an amazing future, Tampa is more than fine down the middle, and with Tuch, the top 6 is set for quite a few years to come. Tampa could focus on adding one additional middle/bottom 6 guy, and then with the added cap space, they could address any other needs as well during the offseason.

I don't think we need Byram(or any D), just going off of the deal proposed though the value I don't think is outrageous. Like previously posted, would be ecstatic to get Tuch, especially if we can get him w/o including Geekie or Howard.

Yeah, I don't think there's any scenario where Tampa could get Tuch without trading one of Geekie or Howard. Buffalo would likely want NHL ready guys if they were moving Tuch, so I'd guess Geekie would be the ask.

If it costs one of those guys then we need to bite down hard and do it, but if they want an overpayment on top of that you let them overplay their hand to someone else.

Between Geekie and Howard, I much rather keep Howard personally. Fits more in what our roster would need in the last years of Cup contention IMO

Also mentions that he thinks we did ask about Tuch - hopefully Tuch asks out and we can somehow swing him with picks. I'd honestly give him the Jeannot classic draft class in a heart beat for him.
