Speculation: 2024-2025 General Discussion III: 4 nations, 4th line scoring

Buffalo's in a weird spot. It seems they have pissed their fan base off to the point that trading win-now players is a no go, but by the time they are actually ready to win, a guy like Tuch will be far less useful.

That said, because it's in-division, I can't see them going for it. Half of Buffalo's hope for the future is teams like us age out of playoff contention and are forced to rebuild.

If they were smart they would trade Tuch now and load up for next year in the off-season when their season isn’t lost. In other words they will hold onto Tuch

I am just saying we shouldn’t fixate on Tuch to the point of a massive overpay like we've done before, he's not at the right age to try and make that work with years of affordable cost control in front of him. All of this extra cap space we are getting over the next few years is a big opportunity to turn us back into cup contenders and extend our window if used intelligently.
Adding Tuch (or a similar player) would be an add that definitely increases their contention chances, and unfortunately, with the cap going up, getting players for bargains is going to be more and more rare. The assets moved will also not be minimal if Tampa goes after anyone with term. I'm fine with an extra asset moving for a player like Tuch, should he be the main target. Getting at least 2 runs with him would be great, and with the cap space, odds would be good they'd be able to re-sign him (unless he just didn't like Tampa for some reason). If Tampa has a realistic contention window of perhaps 5 more years, he'd fit in well at age 28 now. As I've said, I'd rather go for other players, whether ufa or rfa, that may cost a little less or maybe a little younger, but if it took two high level picks+prospect to get him, I wouldn't have any problems with it.

I hope I’m wrong but the ask for Tuch is gonna be too much for us. By that I mean, I am not willing to give up Ike, Crozier, or our future firsts.

Now, if they would be willing to take a couple players off of our current roster like Perbix, Sheary, Chaffee, or Goncalves, and a future 2nd/3rd I would live with that
Tampa isn't getting anyone of significant impact this deadline, at least not if they're looking for a younger rfa add or a player with term, without moving at least one upcoming 1st or higher level prospect.

My hope is either for Tampa to add a top 6 winger like Bjorkstrand and a middle 6 guy like Kunin, or two middle 6 guys like Kunin and maybe Donato or someone like that. Whether JBB adds a dman or not may limit how many forwards they can realistically add, but there are ways to add 3 guys with retention and salary moving the other way.

I like his age a lot. He's in the season of his career where players tend to realize winning is everything. And he would fit in with our core.

I think it's a long shot because Buffalo is counting on us getting bad, so they aren't gonna want to help us get better. But this is the type of player we could realize use for at least a couple of years.

If Tuch can replicate his 22-23 season, he could be in line for a 7-9 mil AAV on his next deal which he'll want to maximize considering the discount he's at now. 28 isn't old, but those are the contracts you have to be really careful with. He'll be 30 and looking cash in on what could be his last chance at a big contract. In terms of the offer, I'd be treating him more as a 1.5 season rental than a long term investment. Geekie is off the table for me.

I get Buffalo not wanting to get worse. However, they can still use the assets and cap space from a Tuch trade, or the ones they already have, to push their team in the right direction. My offer would be more like an unprotected 1st in '26 or '27, one of our extra 2nds or 4ths this year, a non blue chip prospect like Finley and maybe an extra body like Perbix who they could look at re-signing since they lack RHD. People will laugh at that offer but it's pretty much in line with what a good, but not elite winger will get you.

I don’t think they have to do much as long as Vasy continues being the good Vasy and Moser gets back.
Honestly I think a move at either forward or D would be huge. Adding a RHD would give us one of the better D cores in the league. And adding a #2RW would make our top6 quite likely the best.

Let's just sign Rantanen and Ekblad in the offseason after we've won the cup.
