2024-2025 Blues Trade Proposals Thread.

they could and would get alot more for #1 pick than Kyrou + 19th
Yeah, I figured it probably wouldn't be enough. It's tough to gauge Schaefer's value. He's not as highly touted has Dahlin was going in the draft year. Projects as a #1 but not necessarily a Makar or Hughes type that can just take over games.

If Kyrou + 1st round pick for a dman wants to be the pieces going back, probably look towards buffalo to trade dahlin or power. could probably get it done for something in that ballpark with that being the framework.

They’d make us add Fischer or Ralph to help compensate

Kyrou to Pittsburgh for 2025 1st round pick (they have 2, PIT/NYR, we would get the higher pick likely #10 or so)
B Tkachuk to STL for STL #19 pick + Pittsburgh 1st round pick

Faulk to Carolina for 2026 2nd

Kyrou gets a fresh start. Plays closer to home and with Crosby. We get our boy Tkachuk and get rid of Faulk's contract.

This also leaves roughly 21-22 million in cap space for them to sign #2C Taveres and #3/4 Dman Provlov. You could severely overpay for Taveres to get him on a 1 year deal, if it doesnt work out, you flip him at the deadline for picks.
But why would Ottawa trade the face of their franchise after finally breaking through and reaching the playoffs when the team is just scratching the surface of their potential? They have a legitimate future top 5 D-man in the league that has the ability to control the pace of a game who still has his best 10 plus years of hockey ahead of him. The Ottawa GM would be tarred and feathered for dealing Brady for draft picks. And by all counts, Brady's love for the city of Ottawa is equal to how much they love him. I just can't see it.

Would you guys trade a package centered around Kyrou for Schaefer/NYI's pick? Islanders already have ample D so I could see them looking to move down or trade it out right. Would Kyrou + 19 Ovr potentially be enough? I'm not super deadset on trading Kyrou like others but this team does need young D a lot more than wingers.
Regardless of what the value is, the concept doesn’t really make any sense. The Blues are exiting their retool and will be looking to legit contend for a Cup again soon. While it would be lovely to have the first legit potential #1 defenseman in the pipeline since Petro, you’re prob looking at 3-5 years in Schaefer’s development curve before he starts making a sizeable impact…if he pans out.

Definitely disagree on Schaefer needing as many as five years. I'd be shocked if he isn't making a considerable impact by year 3. He's either playing in the NHL this coming year or the year after.

There are a lot of knee jerk reactions in this thread. Several posters are advocating dumping this player or that player with no coherent plan of who to target or how that makes us better.

Trade Faulk. OK, I can get behind that. I've been a vocal critic of his since the trade. But who plays 2RD? If addition by subtraction were a thing, why didn't we just scratch him?

If you are advocating trading X player that plays significant minutes with no plan on how to replace those minutes, your plan sucks.

We just had the best record in hockey over 2 or so months and took the President's Trophy winner to the brink. I didn't think this team had it in them but they showed they did. We absolutely need to get better, but not by cutting people or paying big for a small upgrade for the sake of a preferred playstyle or video game played in their free time.

We need to deal from a position of strength (cap and young wingers) to improve areas of weakness (Faulk and Sunny/Schenn) while also future proofing our roster by keeping/gaining prospects that can replace our older players. Getting rid of Faulk or Kyrou or whoever with nothing of need in return does not help.
Yeah 1000% everything posted here. Say it again for the people in the back.

Would cap be the issue with Minn and Rossi? IIRC, his ELC is up. They might be concerned with, unable or unwilling to afford hisask on his next deal. A young 60 C on an ELC is a different beast than one looking to maximize his earnings now. Are we comfortable giving Rossi $7+ if that's what it takes?

I like the player, but would worry on the cost.
I recall Eliotte Friedman saying a week or so ago that Rossi isn't trusted with significant minutes or PP opportunities even though he seems to have what they have been lacking. So there could be quite a bit more than a squabble over a few dollars.

I am seeing the worst ideas and proposals I have ever seen on this board today. So so so bad. Either unrealistically cheap or we give way too much. Brady Tkachuk's name should be banned from this thread. Cullen Potter is tiny and a lottery ticket. Thinking NYI will trade 1OA is up there. Rossi is not moving in the division. Love the discussion but can we be realistic here at least a little bit

Your hate boner for Jordan Kyrou is a little ridiculous. He's a terrible player but yet he is going to fetch all these premium players from teams. Do you really think that the real NHL plays like a video game because your logic is seriously flawed.

Moving on from that a couple of thoughts on players coming out of our elimination.

Ryan Suter: Dallas fans warned us when we signed him that he was fine during the regular season but struggled badly when things amped up in the playoffs and that is exactly what we saw. Other than the rough stuff the refs let him get away with because he's a veteran I can't think of a single play he made all series that showed him in a positive light.

Justin Faulk: He had a rough series and I generally think he has out welcomed his stay in St. Louis. That being said we have nobody right now to slot into that spot in the lineup. Jiricek isn't even close to being ready and Kessel is at best a #7. Playing 5 LHD is also a no go. It's on Army to see if he can bolster that right side in the off season and if so I wouldn't mind looking for a new home for Faulk.

Jordan Kyrou: Listen, I am not going to say that he had a great playoffs because he didn't but honestly outside of Fowler, Binnington and 4th line, who did? Buch had that one big game, Thomas was hot and cold all series long. I have said this so many times I blue in the face. Jordan Kyrou has to play with people that play at his pace. The reason he finds himself in no mans land so often is that he is so far ahead of the play in comparison to his teammates, which causes him to over stick handle to buy time. When he was with Holloway he finally had someone who played at his pace and the fact that Schenn could always be the 3rd man in the play. Depending on how camp goes I would really like to see a Holloway - Thomas - Kyrou line next year.

Kyrou was taken 35th overall. Blues have the 19th pick. Potter should be there. Most mocks have him going in the early 20s. Did you watch his highlights?

I'm going to be honest with you, I can't figure out if this is satire or not. I didn't read the thread to figure out what side of the argument you were on lol. I just figured a little bit of perspective could stop a few people from jumping ship on us having a 1st line point producer signed at 8m which is going to be potentially 7% of the cap during his prime years.

You're wanting to trade a 1st line winger for a young defenseman who missed alot of his draft year due to injury. There is such a wide range of outcomes that Schaefer can turn in to and we just made the playoffs.

If you were talking about moving Kyrou for a Dobson or someone like that I could understand it. But we're talking about a guy in Canadian Junior Hockey.

Really missing ArmChair GM feature on capfriendly right about now. Did any site come out with anything similar?

I don't understand why so many people are obsessed with Dobson. He's a 50 point defenseman who can't play defense and is going to ask for 9 mil.

Would agree his contract isn't going to be great. But he's got a good frame, and tools to be a two-way guy. Anyone that's established himself as a two-way guy at that age isn't going to be moved. I personally don't think Bouchard is very good so I typically default to Dobson. Scoring 50+ points on the Islanders as a defenseman isn't necessarily easy.

2025 playoffs:

- Nathan Walker: 3 goals, 1 assist, +5
- Jordan Kyrou: 3 goals, 0 assists, -4

Rouzy ain’t got the grit for playoff hockey.

I know Army likes forward pairs …. but Snuggerud, who just finished college (14 NHL games), has surpassed Kyrou as RW1.

I still think the right move is to go young to come up with the next wave. Let the Blues developmental get ahold of them and shape them. Some names that I would like to see us target, Simon Nemec, Tom Willander and Scott Morrow. There are others but those are three that I like.

Based on what? The way the lines are set? We ran 18/89/25 game 7, I personally didn't agree with it but it was mainly to get Kyrou going. Why did we need to get Kyrou going? Because Schenn isn't a 2nd line player and I'm not sure Neighbors is either. They however don't get the flack Kyrou does because they hit people. I'm not trying to knock Neighbors and Schenn, you need those guys as well, I just get the feeling half of this crowd would prefer we ran out Thomas' line and 3 lines that just hit everyone and score at a 30-50 point pace.

What made us dangerous and what got us into the playoffs was 2 really high end scoring lines, and a 4th line that was an energy line. What did we lose going into the playoffs and when the streak was done? Holloway. What that did was make it almost impossible for us to put together two scoring lines - especially since we were just completely reluctant to try Bolduc/Schenn/Kyrou for some odd reason.

You don't need a team full of "grit" for the playoffs. You need depth. We haven't developed the depth yet and we had a key piece go down which negatively affected any chance we had to not be a one line team given who we were comfortable playing up the lineup.

Snuggerud is not our best Right Wing, and frankly, he's not overly physical or aggressive either. Thomas isn't either, Buchnevich isn't either. But Kyrou catches flack because for some reason people get stuck on the twisted words from JR and associate him with Berube being fired, or in Dizee's case a fortnite kid - although he fails to point towards Thomas on that front as well because it wouldn't fit his narrative.

If Kyrou isn't our RW1 we have the best RW group in the NHL unless you are solely looking at what line he plays on, and it appears you are. I now can't figure out if this post is satire either.

That is ridiculous. Jordan Kyrou has scored over 30 goals each of the last few years. I like Snuggerud a lot but can we wait until he scores 20 in a year. This is just typical post elimination hysteria. There has to be someone to blame, there has to be someone whose head rolls. There really doesn't, if GMs had emotional responses like this their teams would be in a never ending rebuilds. There is no such thing as a perfect player without flaws. Jordan Kyrou undoubtedly has some but people just overlook that 35 goals and 70 points he put up this year. We get rid of him, who replaces that?

For the love of god, the Dizee's of this board are multiplying at an alarming rate, posters incapable of complex thought. Cutting one's nose off to spite one's face. Just be patient, we don't need a lot of moves just the right moves at the right time and I can not say it enough. PATIENCE.

He's braindead defensively. All offense no defense. Remind you of someone? That's right, Faulk. Dobson is not the answer. I don't give a damn if he scored 50 points if he can't play defense. And for damn sure isn't worth the 9mil cap he'll be asking for.

People don't seem to understand that the NHL isn't NHL 25 you can't just force trades.

Kyrou had 10 more goals than the next player on the team and directly contributed to around 27% of all goals the team scored this past season. Even with his "shitty" playoffs who still was tied for team lead in goals.

If you were Ottawa, you wouldn’t take Kyrou + Dvorsky + 2026 1st for Brady Tkachuk? That doesn’t seem too forced. Sens were bounced in 6, but Brady had 4 goals, 3 assists, and was +2. Kyrou is -12 in 28 career playoff games. Playoffs have less space and more physicality than the regular season. $8 mil ain’t a bargain if you put up stats in the regular season only to be meh in the playoffs. Dak Prescott-esque. Lol.
