As for Sunny, I love him & appreciate his helping us get the Cup, but why does he get a pass, I've seen no suggestion here of trading him away?

I think most have outlined here that we really need an upgrade at center for that line. I still think he's an alright guy to have as a 13th or 14th forward due to the flexibility, and in all reality, his contract isn't that big of a burden.

If someone really wanted him and was willing to pay to get him, sure move him. I think he signed up for this part of the Blues cycle because he wanted to be here. Most would probably be perfectly happy if he were just an extra on the roster. I'd value that a bit more than a 4th which i think is still optimistic as a return for him.

He definitely needs less opportunity if we want to get better. But we can't afford to do that unless we call up a center or trade for one.

it's definitely oblivious to spend years of effort arguing that Petro was disloyal and then show up on the main boards mocking the Edmonton GM for ... get this ... not prioritizing his own guys over UFAs!

I think Buch would probably accept a trade to the right contending team which would be the teams most interested in trading for him. I don't see that as a major obstacle nearly as much as the actual value of the contract is.

I've read several posts saying Buch needs to be traded. Surely you have too unless you're blind. They're not trading him before his extension kicks in unless he personally doesn't wanna be here anymore.

Saying he needs to be traded is a lot different from expecting it to happen.

I didn't like the extension but saying Buch NEEDS to be traded is very premature. There's no reason why he can't be a productive, veteran, complimentary player for the next 3-4 years when the impact kids breaking into the lineup are all on ELC's. You can't have an entire roster full off 22 year olds.

When he talked about the trade to St Louis, he seemed pretty laid back about being moved. He said it was better to be somewhere that wants you. But think of the Blues did want to move him and came with an offer, he wouldn’t obstruct most moves.

But I don’t think the front office has entertained the idea of moving him. At all.

I agree with all of this, short of a blockbuster trade for EP pushing Schenn down to 3C, I don’t think 3C is solvable this year. Out of curoristy what is our cap situation? With Leddy and Krug on LTIR how much room do we have even with Suter bonuses?
We currently have $3.59M in cap space with Krug on LTIR. This does not count any of Suter's bonuses. Suter has earned $1.125M in bonuses so far and will earn another $600k if he plays 12 more games this year. If he plays 12 more games AND we make the playoffs, he will earn another $500k. So all told, we need to 'budget' for $2.25M in bonuses.

As of right now, Leddy is on regular IR, not LTIR. If he is done for the year, we could create more space by moving him to LTIR. However, while his recovery has been unclear, it does see, like he is trying to play this year and I wouldn't want to make a deadline move relying on that relief unless it is 100% clear that he's not playing again this season.

All in all, we are in pretty good position with the cap and could very likely manage to fit in rental up to $2M without facing a bonus overage. But most guys worth considering for the middle 6 center spot make more than that and if they don't, they would probably cost more than a 2026+ mid round pick to acquire.

Buch being a complimentary player and not having a roster of all 22-year-olds are both fine. Paying Buch 8 million dollars a year to be a 3rd line complimentary player is not. The organization will be paying Buch to be a top line player starting next season. Is it too early to think Buch is falling off a cliff? Maybe. That is up for debate etc... and time will tell.

Saying all that, it's my opinion, his best days are behind him already. I stand by my opinion he needed to be traded last year and definitely not resigned.

If he's relegated to 3rd line minutes, it's a big problem for the organization.

On today’s what chaos hockey podcast or whatever Chris Johnson mentioned the Blues as a guess at a destination for JT Miller. He didn’t say it like he knew some magical rumor but also, it seems like he isnt throwing darts blindly. It was a thoughtful/rumor-lite comment.

Not sure what all of your opinions are on Jt Miller. My only issue with the situation is his term: he’s signed until 2030/31 and will be 37 then. I wouldn’t mind this at all if we didn’t already have Schenn and Buch signed for the similar years. I like his aav. I kinda like that he’s seemingly a jerk too. We have a lot of real nice guys…I think a little rough around the edges could help. Be nice if he could come and do his thing but at the same time let the adults in the room maintain control.

Be interesting if a deal happened. I don’t think the Canucks can get full value trading him mid season, so it’s maybe a safe guess that if a trade occurred we’d “win” it. Apart from futures, and I doubt we’d send Robert Thomas to Vancouver, we would probably experience a dramatic improvement in the current team since there’s nobody we could really send back that is like for like. We’d have to give them 5 nickels for a quarter similar to ror

If we swap similar vet contracts I'd probably be ok with it. I imagine insiders know that Army is looking, lines up with something that Dreger recently said too.

Meh, I guess if maybe we are flipping for Buch or something similar but seems highly unlikely. I wouldn't want to give up a bunch of futures for someone who doesn't really fit our age group/timeline but rumored attitude issues aside he is a fantastic player.
