A classic example of the grass is always greener. You may argue that Faulk hasn't been worth his contract, but he has certainly stepped up in multiple seasons with impressive point totals and offensive production despite having minimal top powerplay minutes. At the same time, the NY Rangers have been actively trying to shed Trouba's 8.0 M AAV contract for a multitude of reasons. That's not a trade any St. Louis fan should love making.
Cool, that’s your opinion but you don’t speak for every St. Louis fan.
Trouba puts up respectable point totals as well. I think he’s a better player. Faulk is an offensive defenseman who can’t QB a powerplay - him not getting PP time is a knock on his abilities, it’s not like coaching is preventing him from that. It’s close between the two, but Trouba is 2 years younger and also has 1 less year on his contract than Faulk. It makes sense simply from that standpoint.
As for the Rangers actively trying to shed his contract, well we don’t know how active they’ve been in that. He’s been in some rumors but he also plays in NY. Faulk plays in small market STL with a GM who doesn’t let things get out. How do you know we haven’t shopped Faulk around just as much? I’m sure we have at times, like we were doing with Krug. Either way, I don’t think who’s been in trade rumors more has anything to do with their value.
