Yes, Alsace-Lorraine has been French and German and back and forth going all the way back to the Confederations of Germany and of Switzerland in 1815.My wife traced her family back to Alsase-Lorraine but they are German. Guess it all depended what year/decade decided if it was German or French. They fought over the wine
