2024-2025 Blues Multi-Purpose Thread.

Don't even need the 2nd.
Who can we get in the range of a 1st & 3rd? LOL
This comment and Blues post was likely made in jest. But just for kicks, what RFAs would be worthy of this offer and wouldn't have their team match?

Compensation tier is $4,680,076 to $7,020,113
  1. BUF/ Buffalo has Byram, Peterka, McLeod and Quinn all expiring RFA contracts and around 21M in space projected.
  2. EDM / Bouchard? EDM would match anything in this compensation range. Blues would have to go north of 11M and four 1sts and I dont think Bouchard is worth that.
  3. WPG / Vilardi? Not really a need.
  4. MIN / Rossi? Not interested.
  5. TOR / Knies? Has already indicated not looking to sign an offer sheet.
  6. BOS / Geekie? Imagine Boston would match
  7. NYI / Dobson? 28M in cap space with alot of expiring UFA contracts. 7 expiring RFAs. New management coming in. Isles probably match anything sub 7M. Expecting Dobson's next contract will come in between 8-9M.
I would be kicking the tires on a McLeod offer sheet (or trade). And a Dobson trade if Blues can move Faulk and Leddy.

Its unlikely but Rossi would absolutely be of interest, 23 year old 60 point center? Yes please.

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell Knies lasted until pick 57 in his draft year. He's John LeClair with speed and mobility.
Covid as others have said but I also recall hearing murmurs he didn’t interview well. Came across arrogant. Not sure how true that is but I definitely recall reading that.

We're only missing our 2nd and I don't think it'd be too awfully difficult to get it back from Pittsburgh again
This is true. We’re only missing our 2nd in 2026. Not sure I agree Pitt would be so willing to help us out again though. We can’t just keep pushing back the 2nd rounder we owe them forever lol!

That said, I just don’t see this being a great year for offer sheets. With the cap going up, most teams are much much better positioned to defend offer sheets than the Oilers were a year ago. Then again, this time last year the Oilers probably looked ok. It was the signings they did on July 1st/2nd that got them into trouble. So maybe there will be a GM that stupidly backs himself into a corner like interim GM Jeff Jackson did for EDM but I doubt it. GMs saw how badly that worked out for EDM and I bet will be sure to not make the same mistake.

Agree but look at the Sabres. Currently 21M in space next season but raises due for McLeod, Peterka, Quinn and Byram with expiring RFA deals. No other expiring contracts. Not entirely backed into a corner but also not much flexibility to resign those 4, add a backup goalie to ice a 23-man roster next season and make additional changes for a team desperate to turn things around.

Maybe a little but plenty of players have succeeded in the playoffs at 5'9, not my first choice but there would definitely be interest there
There’s also a question for me of how well he will produce/how effective he would be away from Kaprizov. I like Rossi a lot, but not sold on acquiring him personally.

USA blew a 5-1 lead against
No concern with a 5'9" Top 6 center in the Central Division, particularly in the playoffs?
I’d be concerned.

I watched a good number of Wild games this season. Very talented player. Good playmaker. But I’ve always been iffy on his size. Particularly in how that would play out in the playoffs. And what happened in the playoffs this year? He was demoted to 4C because he was getting outmuscled.

I do think there’s a place in the league for undersized forwards, even on Cup caliber teams, but not convinced it’s at 1C or 2C. I’m more comfortable with that sort of player on the wing. Or maybe 3 or 4C if we’re talking a stout Acciari type.

Everything depends on what the trade/UFA market has to offer, but my preference would be to focus on upgrading the defense this Summer. I'm fine entering next year with our same centers as long as we add on defense. Our defense needs more impactful, long term solutions and I think we can get by with a 1 or 2 year TDL addition at center.

Idk man. I have concerns about our D too, but our d-corps just scored at a crazy rate this season. Everybody is a year older next year, yes, and we don't have enough in the prospect hopper to backfill at the same level. We need to upgrade at some point. But we have good depth, and nobody has completely fallen off the cliff yet (except maybe Leddy).

But having Sundqvist at 3C held us back this year. Having Schenn at 2C held us back. The Buchnevich experiment failed miserably. When Thomas went down early in the season, we had 0 centers on the team who could hold up against first line competition. We had a decent enough start to the season, Thomas went down, and we immediately became a draft lottery team. A bona fide 2C makes this team legit, without that I really have my doubts.

All indications are that Dvorsky won't be ready until Christmas at the earliest, and he may end up playing all of next year in Springfield. We can't count on him to fill in the gaps yet. We need to trade for or sign someone who can man that spot.

That depends on who we're going after. If it hurts a team in their division they might be interested.

Last time we had to give them a 2026 2nd and 2025 3rd to get our 2025 2nd back. I’d prefer to not keep paying Pitt 3rds (or whatever additional compensation would get Dubas to do it) to keep getting our 2nd back.

Just take a year off from offer sheets. Or go bigger with a 1st and 3rd offer. Or just trade for the player with other assets.
