2024-2025 Blues Multi-Purpose Thread.

I’m still disappointed at the the fashion of the loss, but overall I completely agree. If you would have told me 3 months ago that we would take a series against the Jets to double OT of game 7 I would have been thrilled. That’s what I’ve been reminding myself of today. We have a couple holes to fill, but I still feel vastly better about the future of this team than I did 12 months ago.

Also a big shame we didn’t get to see Holloway in the playoffs. l was very happy with Broberg’s play. I truly think this series goes in our favor if Holloway was in the lineup.

I don't think you can blame our loss on Holloways injury. Not that you are. Just saying, Wpg never had Ehlers and Schiefele on the ice at the same time. Those are equal losses to Holloway.

Watching the clip of that game tying goal again, and I just cannot believe Ehlers made the decision to make that cross ice pass to Connor with 3 f’ing seconds left, after whiffing on the shot.

It was there and open but just wild to do that with 3 ticks left, and then they make the Tic-Tac-Toe play off of it. An incredible play.

Many ways we could have helped ourselves, but contrast that ballsy play with 3 seconds left with Buchnevich missing the opportunity to skate to the right or feather one out there with 45 seconds left…..that’s especially something I will think about a lot.

I like Bouchy, but I grow tired of the moody Russian thing. Can't we get another happy Russian like Barbie?

Broberg was oozing talent all playoffs. We need a Defensive RHD to pair with him and let him fly. Also just give him the 2nd PP.
Dante Fabbro is a pending UFA…

Looked good with Josi and then looked good with Werenski. I’m sure CBJ wants to re-sign him but if they don’t then he’d be a good righty to go after IMO.

His teammate, Provorov, is also a pending UFA RD.

Could be remembering wrong, but feel like we were linked to Provorov in trade talks quite a bit a few years ago? I remember Fowler always seemed to be a trade target too way back when and then Armstrong finally got him.

That was when we were trying to send Krug to Philly for him

My quick thoughts after sleeping on this tragedy:

1. We are terrible when the goalie is pulled. Both when we pull the goalie and when the opponent pulls the goalie. There might be some Montgomery effect here as the Bruins were terrible at this too when he was the coach. This has to be rectified if we want to be a contender.

2. Extremely disappointing performances by Faulk, Kyrou, and Bolduc. Faulk was a turnover machine and just constantly made terrible plays at both ends of the ice. I have been a long time defender of Kyrou but he lacked an extra gear in his play and was outmuscled far too often in OT. I caught multiple instances where he tried to get around a Jets defender and got knocked off the puck without much pushback. He looked far too timid and hesitant to engage. Bolduc was a hitting machine but really didn't accomplish much otherwise. He needs to work on his even strength play instead of just being a one-trick pony.

3. Snuggerud was a pleasant surprise although he has a penchant for making some risky passes through the middle of the ice. I would have liked to see him get some opportunities to utilize his shot - some of that is the PP setup as Thomas is in his usual spot. He'll be a top six forward for us next year for sure.

4. I really liked the play of Neighbours and the WTF line. Neighbours has really improved his puck possession and playmaking from a year ago, something that I used to knock him for. The WTF line were a forechecking machine and really caused some havoc on the Jets. Toropchenko had a terrific playoffs in my view and really showed his value with his speed and size. I would have no problem with re-signing Faksa for our 4th line to keep them together.

5. Schenn and Sundqvist are getting old and I don't think they'll be dipping their toes in the fountain of youth anytime soon. I will admit that I was incredibly confused at Monty's reliance on Sundqvist. It felt like every time he had the puck, he would make the wrong play or his pass would be off the mark. I admire his effort but both his hands and feet are not NHL level anymore. It looks like he's skating through quicksand against 30km/hour wind while being restrained by a rope.

6. Our passive d-zone play is mind boggling. As soon as a Jets player gets the puck, all our players immediately back off and let them pass it around. It was pretty evident that point shots were incredibly valuable this series and yet we gave their d-men all the time and space in the world to find shooting lanes. Binner isn't getting beat clean very often but redirections and screens will absolutely hamper his ability to stop the puck. The OT goal displayed this clearly.

7. Props to Binner for his performance. He made some world class saves and had a commanding presence on the back end. He absolutely showed up and deserved a better fate.
Agree on all your points. And to add to the Binner line: his stick play was up to his usual top standards, he seemed very even-keeled and locked in despite taking a lot of contact in the series. Most of the goals scored against him were snipes.

Also, I'd be happy to have Faksa back if the price is reasonable. Underrated contributor and I think we'd have a harder time replacing him than some may think. WTF line was a menace.

If Faksa demands more than 2.5 then he can walk. Tho. If he walks we then need to upgrade both our 2C and 4C. Sunny shouldn't be an everyday player, and if he is, he shouldn't be a center.

Faksa, Sunny Suter and Leddy…dead weight.

We can expect other types of dead weight as the team transitions to the new generation. A couple more years of dead weight types and that’s it.

On the other hand, it is partly that veteran presence that got the Blues this far.

I don’t think I’d call Faksa and Sunny dead weight. I thought Faksa provided good defensive play and didn’t with some snarl. If he’s willing to take a one year deal for cheap I’m happy to have him back.

Sunny is slow as molasses but he’s also still pretty solid defensively. He was just forced to play too high in the lineup. If he was on the fourth line I don’t think anyone would complain.

I’m exaggerating a little and just playing on a previous post about dead weight. Joseph is also dead weight, but Texier can still be useful, me thinks.

We want to upgrade these positions, right?

Faksa dead weight? What a clueless comment. The 4th line was arguably our best against WPG. Sunny and Suter also contributed plenty all season.

I think Faksa is serviceable for his role. I don't think Sunny has the legs for a full NHL season. Id prefer to use him as a winger. Suter was fine, I think his legs fell off right as we got to the playoffs. I want Leddy gone. But that's mainly because we have Fowler and Broberg and I think we can save money on a 3rd LHD.
