I don't disagree that net-front is important, but shots have to get through to make the net-front matter. We have 3 forwards - spread across 2 PP units -who are capable of creating or finding lanes through coverage. We have one decent 1T option in Holloway. The next best 1T option, IMO, is also our best distributor.
5x last night (4 from Thomas, 1 from Holloway) pucks were put on sticks in prime scoring areas only to have the receiver hesitate or bobble, essentially restarting the play.
The looks have been there. The problem is pulling the trigger. We just don't have the shoot first mentality, which severely mutes a player like Thomas (and even Kyrou) effectiveness on the PP. I trust Monty when he says Bolduc has things to work on (he also has some of the best micro stats on the team), but putting a guy like that on the PP and just telling him his only job is to be find a lane and be ready is how you can build confidence in a player and manufacture what you've been missing from the PP since Perron left.
Putting Bolduc on the Thomas unit doesn't fix everything that's plaguing the PP, but with the players we have coming, it's a step in the direction and mindset that they will force. No reason to wait.
