They are sitting at -1 and need to get to +14 in the span of 47 games to reach 96 points and expect a strong shot at a wild card.

The next six games are an opportunity to claw back onto trajectory:

at Detroit
vs Nashville
vs Buffalo
at Chicago
vs Ottawa
at Columbus

I think if they play similarly to the games we saw in Florida they should win most if not all of these

For the time being I am just assuming the team intends to make the playoffs and not worrying about moves they could or should make to be sellers. The trajectory will hold or it won't and we'll know soon enough. I'm just not ready to declare it over if they play like they've been playing

6 losses in the past 8. its not the coaching, its the players and mostly the CORE that is rotten.

when will armstrong be held accountable for the turd roster he has put out on the ice?

So should he go out of spend these precious resources known as draft picks to get a 2nd line center that we're missing so badly or will you throw a shit fit over that too? Kyrou is producing and rounding out his game, Thomas is being Thomas so aside from Schenn being our 2c and being old what would you like done? Want to throw Dvorsky to the wolves before he's ready? Want to bring up Lindstein before he's ready?

We should probably trade Dvo for an aging 2C with 2 years of term left so we can challenge for a WC

6 points out of the 16 possible. We're an average team. Average teams will occasionally go on stretches like that. They'll also occasionally go on stretches where they win more than they lose. We won 6 of 9 (13 of 18 possible points) from Nov. 21st to Dec. 10th.

Are you expecting us to be an above average team? Because we are not.

We just finished a particularly brutal stretch of the schedule. Rest of December and all of January look favorable. They’ll need to go on a run at some point though.

I listened to drew bannister’s interview with Andy Strickland and I think there’s an alternate universe where drew is an assistant right now running half the bench and it’s successful.

Although I think Monty should get to build whatever team he wants - I wonder how Drew’s career arc would be if his nhl promotion was to be an assistant instead of a head coach.

Either way I think he’ll work again and probably not have to wait super long. Kinda wish the dude was still a part of the group. Seems like a guy you want in the group.

I think the target to be sellers is going to skew lower than normal. The goal is KIND OF to make the playoffs. But the actual goal is to be playing competitive games that feel like they matter (be in the realistic hunt for the last playoff spot). Missing the playoffs in the last week of the season would be disappointing, but is probably the most realistic outcome. I think Armstrong would not be very upset about that. But I think the front office wants games against playoff teams where we are scrapping for points because it still matters.

I wondered if possibly Armstrong offered to reassign him within the organization, and he opted for a clean break. It crossed my mind, for the same reasons you're referencing.

DA is not going to be “held accountable”. He isn’t going to be let go with a game plan for him to transition out of his role in a short period of time. He isn’t going to let go for carrying out a game plan that he and ownership agreed to. So there isn’t anything to be held accountable for.

The overtime loss to the Panthers was disappointing, but there were some positives. The Blues were playing the Stanley Cup winners on the road, having played the night before.
Hofer played very well, I thought. Sunqvist made a couple of nice plays. And Texier saw some ice and looked good. I hope he gets more ice time. We need another center and he is already a Blue!

I'm not sure that his career arc will end up being much different. If anything, his brief stint as our head coach will help his career.

I will be pretty surprised if he doesn't get hired as an NHL assistant next summer and if that happens then we are only talking about a 1 year "delay" to becoming an NHL assistant compared to a hypothetical scenario where he'd become an assistant here. Essentially, he traded a couple more months of AHL head coach experience and 1 year of NHL assistant coaching experience for 76 games of experience as an NHL head coach along with 7 figures worth of additional salary. He had a winning record in those 76 NHL games (39-31-6), so it isn't like his stint here was a resume-demolishing disaster.

No one likes to get fired. Especially people with the competitive drive required to grind out a career as a pro hockey player and then coach. I'm sure he's not thrilled about where his career is at today. But long term, he's going to come out the other side better off than had he stuck around in the AHL waiting for an assistant coach spot to open up.
