It's quite funny, you knew this was going to happen. But right now most of Toronto media and fans are again in "lock him up, whatever it takes" -mode regarding Marner.

They’ll rationalize by saying Tavares taking less facilitates this. Tavares and Marner both Torontonians shouldn’t also be ignored. It would be a little surprising if Toronto didn’t take the route of a city/organization being in love with itself. And what makes this insane is Toronto can improve its team by letting Marner walk then using the space for 2 or 3 more players from Ontario/Toronto.

The fact that DeBrincat was in a real cozy situation with Ottawa on the rise and forced his way to Detroit only to land with an incredibly old roster that has Andrew Copp and J.T Compher fighting over who the worse center for the 2nd line is warms my heart.

Not that Ottawa is anything special, but I think they have clearly identified a direction, have a path to pursuing it and likely make the playoffs this season provided goaltending holds up.

Detroit is going to miss the playoffs for the forseeable future.

We can laugh now. The burden has been passed.
What burden? Sharks are gunning for a top 3 pick this draft. The Sharks acquiring Fourgiev is basically the same as the Avs trading for Patrick Roy in 1995 in terms of getting closer to team goals

Ottawa made a very good trade this summer when they shipped Chychrun to Wash gor Jensen and a pick. Lost the trade on paper, but made their D much more balanced and better, despite losing Zub to injury. They lost the trade solidly "on paper", but really it was a win-win.
Not to mention Ullmark has settled in, as well.
