Maybe he can eventually play at a top pairing level let alone a 1D level at some point. It's just a ridiculous expectation from him especially considering most teams already their 1D who's better Bo and most have guys that they expect to be their 1D and have a much better chance at being an actual 1D.

I mean if he wants to go play in Chicago or San Jose he could maybe be their #1. But theres very few teams where he'd compete to be a 1D.
There's quite a few teams he at least would get the opportunity or see a path to it, and realistically I think that's all he wants. A place where he could develop into the a top pairing/top PP role. Right now the pecking order in Buffalo is clearly Dahlin > Powers/Byram now and in the future.

I was going to list them, but honestly half the teams in the league fit that mold with a bunch of them being contenders like Toronto, Florida, LA, Carolina, Calgary, Boston, etc. He may not be the #1 instantly there, but there's a path.

Well he won’t be a #1 in Vancouver either.

Of course Byram has to eventually earn it, but it's obvious he also wants to be in a spot where it's realistic to achieve. It's easier to become a #1D if you get thrown into that position and then grow to the role, instead of starting from the 2nd pair. Same goes for becoming a top line player.
On which teams is this even a possibility? Which teams is Byram thrown in as the number 1?

and that's exactly why I thought the Toews extension affected Byram's play before the trade. He was seeing himself on the first pair next to Makar and CMac threw a wrench into that plan.

From that moment he realized he had no future in Colorado.

So did we all..

Oh man.... we should have kept that guy at all costs !!!!!
He just needs to find bad enough team(no good #1) who pays enough and it's done.

Well he won’t be a #1 in Vancouver either.

Yeah, he is over his head for sure. Begging to be something which he hasn't earned.

Seattle, San Jose, Calgary (if they trade Anderson), Chicago, Pittsburgh, or Toronto are all places where he might have a chance to become this.

Yeah, and most of those teams will have a good chance at drafting someone that promptly passes him.

It would be kinda hilarious to see Toronto go after him as their #1 though.

Not so sure about that. There’s a duality to Byram that we’ve seen at high levels. Lately, it seems like he’s been playing with an offensive focus like a swashbuckling pirate swinging into the offensive zone on a chandelier. He’s trying to carve out his career and get paid. But we’ve also seen him play a high level of defense on the biggest stage because that’s what the team needed. Byram has been a mystery box. But if he puts all those things together, you have a very lethal player. The 5th pick of the draft each year is hardly a guarantee to show this kind of talent.

I don’t think Lou has ever been fired, has he? It’d be quite something if they did that. Frankly they should but I’d be stunned if they actually went through with it.

I’m not sure what they do with Roy. I agree it’s not his fault but I also don’t think he’s done very well as a head coach his second time around.
I don't think Lou's been fired either, but I do believe there are times he should have been.

This is definitely one of them. I'm not saying Roy is faultless in any way. I'm just saying these are the Avengers Lou asembled and I'm not sure they are up to the task.

I'm in a hyperbolic mood rN, but I was thinking SJ could be pretty lethal in a couple years if they got him, and he puts it together.

Your comment about high draft picks is valid. Teams see the best in them until they don’t. But isn’t it interesting to think of Toronto as a potential suitor for Byram? They have no one like him and won’t be drafting high enough any time soon.

Personally, I think Bo is still too high on himself to reach his potential.

He's good and will have a good career, given health. But I do wonder if he'll ever reach his true potential. I know he absolutely wants to, but am afraid he thinks he's already closer to it than he is. There's a lot of work to be done. Especially if he wants to be a team leader. At even strength he's 5th in xGF% for Dmen... on the Sabres. I understand he and Power are leading their Dmen in TOI, but man...Not a great look when Samuelsson, Dahlin, Jokihariju, and Connor Clifton are all ahead of you on pushing and controlling the game.
