Smiths speed and hands make it worth working with him a little. The leash will only be so long though.

Also we need to remember Bednar does have times he's willing to let a guy take a penalty, and he judges for himself if it was worth it or not. He's gotten through to guys before. Was it NAK that was a penalty machine prior? There have been one or two.
Oh, I know if it were ever to happen it would be a one and done for all of them. But it could be glorious. Just think about that five man unit all playing like it's Adam Foote's last shift.

Such a shame too. I know Bednar hates guys that play like he used to. But it would be great after watching 5 minutes of lines 1-3 running around playing the Avs typicaly fast but extremely polite hockey, to see Smith-Stienburg-Sherwood with Middleton and Manson jumping over the boards for a completely chaotic and hilarious 40 seconds and then back to lines 1-3.

Our bottom six could be literally painful to play against. I think it worked to wear down Nashville quite well and opened up the game for us.

Roy's Isles getting outshot 7-1 and trailing 1-0 vs Chicago.

Something is going to happen with the Islanders soon.
Saw that game today - what a clown show. Both teams made last month’s Avs look Olympian. Off course when they play us they play like fire but otherwise pretty sloppy.

It would be very difficult to inherit a slumping team full of expensive moderates that will be challenging to move. More power to you Roy.

I have no idea. It would be dumb to fire Roy, he's not responsible for this old team on long term contracts.

Lou should go but will they fire him?
I don’t think Lou has ever been fired, has he? It’d be quite something if they did that. Frankly they should but I’d be stunned if they actually went through with it.

I’m not sure what they do with Roy. I agree it’s not his fault but I also don’t think he’s done very well as a head coach his second time around.

Based on what? He made the playoffs last year. That's just a shitty roster.
I agree it’s not a good roster, there’s just some deployment and overall scheme decisions that IMO make things worse.

FTR I don’t want to see Paddy fired—the NHL is better with him in it—I just don’t love the job he’s done based on what I’ve seen/read and think he’ll be gone before Lamoriello.

Oh man TDA has wicked potential to be that totally disruptive internet personality that calls out the nhl, players, and front offices from the grave while he plays in Russia. Sincerely hope he fulfills his promise here.

It's simple really, he should outplay Dahlin and Power and then he'll be considered the number one defenseman

Did Makar demand that he was made the number one defenseman on the Avs? Or did he earn that position by his play?
Guy can't be a #1 defenseman on a team that has lost 10 in a row and somehow he's the best player ever to some people

Of course Byram has to eventually earn it, but it's obvious he also wants to be in a spot where it's realistic to achieve. It's easier to become a #1D if you get thrown into that position and then grow to the role, instead of starting from the 2nd pair. Same goes for becoming a top line player.

Maybe he can eventually play at a top pairing level let alone a 1D level at some point. It's just a ridiculous expectation from him especially considering most teams already their 1D who's better Bo and most have guys that they expect to be their 1D and have a much better chance at being an actual 1D.

I mean if he wants to go play in Chicago or San Jose he could maybe be their #1. But theres very few teams where he'd compete to be a 1D.

Let's be honest, he could become the #1 in Buffalo if he really had the talent and ability. Dahlin is good but I don't think he's got a lock on that top spot like, say, a Makar or Hughes would.

I like Bo, but any team that ends up paying him and putting him in the position to be their #1 guy would be making an enormous mistake.

Monday, April 15th 2019, It was a cold night in Denver, Colorado. The Colorado Avalanche were playing The Calgary Flames, game 3 round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The series was tied. Suddenly, the doors to Avalanche the locker room flung open with a mighty force. The team stared at the doors as they flew open. There "he" emerged. His heart filled with ire from losing the frozen 4 tournament just a few days prior. This boy, nay a man known as Cale Douglas Makar strolled into the locker room and set rest his equipment upon his locker. He reached into his bag and retrieved a cigar and a match. Then he marched straight up to Erik Johnson, lifted his leg and slammed it onto the bench beside him, while simultaneously lighting his match off the helmet of the nearby Gurbauer, which was still sat upon his head. He then bit down on the butt of the cigar and proceeded to light it. Makar took one long drag of the cigar which seemed to last a lifetime and exhaled an enormous cloud of smoke into the defenceman's face. As Erik stood there coughing, Cale spoke, "This is my Defense now".

Or something like that.

He's already top pairing in Buffalo.

In Byram's defense here.......I don't think he is demanding to be the #1. The post says he WANTS TO EVENTUALLY be the #1. I think he knows he has to earn it and that he hasn't yet. However what he might mean is "if you trade me somewhere, trade me to a team where I will be the #1D".
