Caps with five goals on 8 shots in the first. Still puzzled at how they win, if they keep it up their coach 100% deserves the Adams.

Panthers bring Stanley Cup to U.S. Military Academy at West Point

And for a change of pace tho I know most could care less… enlightening news given the less than mediocure play of the Avs recently. At least for a few...

Matthew Tkachuk has a nephew or cousin, something, as a second year West Point cadet, a Yuk.

The last thing Tkachuk said to the cadet corp which holding the cup on the poop deck…. “Beat Navy”. A correct thing.

The Stanley Cup has spent some time at West Point recently.

The owner of the Florida Panthers is a ‘77 West Point graduate. The owner of the Las Vegas Golden Knights is a ‘67 graduate of West Point. There are several USMA graduates on staff at both organizations.

And, Army beat Air Force 20-3 today at Michie Stadium. Which means they are ½ way to retaining the CiC (Commander in Chief) trophy. They play Navy on Dec 14. Army was ranked #21 going into today’s game.

And am always liking to mention the following for inspirational moments.

…. what do George S. Patton, Omar Bradley, Dwight David Eisenhower, Douglas MacArthur, Garrison ‘Gar’ Davison, Pete Dawkins, Vince Lombardi, Don Holledar, Bob Mischak, Arnold Tucker, James van Fleet, to name a few… have in common? They all played and/or had direct involvement with West Point, Army football.

/off inspirational change. Back to the not inspirational Avs atm.

You can always count on the Sabres to help a team like the Islanders when they need a win.

Buffalo and Ottawa make me seriously reconsider how rebuilding should work.
Not that I think the Sens and Sabres have been run well (they haven’t) but rebuilding has to involve a fair share of luck too. Sabres got the first overall pick in two different drafts that did not boast a real superstar center at the top…and IMO those are starting to look like kinda weak drafts.

Sens are in pretty good shape actually. I just think they still have a bit too much dead weight hanging around.

There is 'some' luck involved but I said at least 2 years ago that locking up players that hadn't proved it or earned it to massive long-term contracts was going to come back and bite Adams in the ass and it has.

I also paralleled the giroux signing when it happened to when we signed Iginla and called it 'the very same mistake' and I believe it has been. It's pretty much the same situation - you have a young power forward captain (Landeskog/B.Tkachuk) and you bring in a guy with a ton of clout to 'help out' the youngsters but it has the opposite effect. I don't think it's necessarily giroux's fault but it just wasn't the best move and you'd think he'd have at least helped them make the playoffs but nope, not even close.

That's the problem with these rebuilds - there just aren't any shortcuts...you wanna do it right then you have to take your lumps. Impatient owners, GMs and coaches usually end up f***ing it up. Realistically speaking, the Leafs should have had at least 1 Cup if they had done it right but they haven't even come close.

A bit surprised Avs didn't take a chance on Aman considering they liked him enough to draft him and have serious injury problems.
Liked him enough to draft him but not sign him.

Wonder if the org saw something and didn't believe he could play here and there's no changing that.

It’s dumb… worst case you waive him when you’re healthy. Best case he supplants Kelly.
Yeah, Kelly has been pretty much straight ass all season. Complete non factor on the ice. Aman has more to offer.

Maybe there's some bad blood between him and the Avs over not signing him? If the Avs knew he would be upset over a claim to come here maybe that's why they passed.

I am pretty sure Hench mentioned that he wanted an "out-clause" or something for Europe and Avs wouldn't give it to him. He didn't want to play in the AHL apparently and Avs wanted him to.

Yeah, we got some of the weirdest selections ever and it comes across as a major lack of communication IMHO. Bleackley (Bent Pracey over), Magyar (retired in juniors), Saigeon (one of the biggest WTFs?! ever), Hanzel (Sward didn't want to sign or something), and now Aman.

Double double animal style is pretty awesome. Strictly in the fast food sense, I just don't think anything touches Shake Shack. It was said on a youtube video years ago and I can't remember exactly where... but In n Out is fast food done well, Shake Shack is fancy food made fast.

My personal rankings are probably something like this for burgers only:

Shake Shack
In n Out (Animal Style)
Culver's
Freddie's
Del Taco
Five Guys
In n Out (standard)
Whataburger
Runza
Fatburger
McDonald's
Steak n Shake
Wendy's
Checker's
Sonic
White Castle

If you're digging for chains below those... just go get something else. Culver's or Del Taco probably have the best overall menus (Runza gives a run here too). Whataburger probably has the best fries (though McDonald's and Five Guys have their place). Shake Shack has the best shakes. Best desserts goes to Culver's though (the concrete mixers are better than any Blizzard). Freddie's is a very specific type of burger that deserves love (very thin and crispy edges). White Castle is about the ultimate burger when you're browned out.

Solid list, I'm definitely missing a few in the top half.

Carl's Jr is missing from the Wendy's/McD area of that list, and then Checkers is a place I can see being all over the map for people, but worth a mention.

One thing about Wendy's and Checkers though. If you don't like a burger where the grease sometimes soaks through to the outer bag they'd fall hard on the list.

I don't mind it when I want that kind of death pill though.

Checkers has impressed me by keeping their prices, and the same quality despite inflation while in no world should a single from McDonald's be 9.99 USD anywhere on the planet.

I assume the Avs think he wouldn't head to the AHL if they claimed him which could cause them to not put the claim in at all.

It is weird how they didn't at least take a chance and if he sucks, just waive him again.

I don't really consider Five Guys as fast food. There is no drive thru, you have to park and go inside to order, and it takes several minutes to get your food after you order.

Their burgers and fries are the bomb, though. Worth it to go in and get it. But to me, they are more liken to a SmashBurger, or Red Robin

I can see this take on Five G for sure, but the only reason I ever go to Red Robin is because no one minds the kids being loud because it's just normal there lol.

Red Robin's bacon is more pathetic than some of the worst fastfood chains, and I do not get a burger out without bacon basically ever lol.

You guys still have Red Robin's? To my knowledge they have mostly closed in Western Canada after being relevant here for years.

There are a lot of businesses that have died post-Covid. Red Robins and Red Lobster are some of the notorious ones (Red Lobster just hired like a 35-year-old CEO or something). Not sure what the reason is, or if people are going to superior choices/ordering from home.

What about Burger King? Is anyone here a fan of Burger King burgers?

They've had the best cheap end of the menu for most of my lifetime I think.

I won't eat at Whitecastle because I know how sick I got the first time, but I seem cursed to crave very cheap fast food on occasion.

I've gone to the depths of fast food darkness seeking as much food for as little money as possible more times than I should have in life, especially since it was voluntary for all but a few years of life.

In Michigan they're still very popular. I think it is like Applebee's and a few other places that contracted but survived where they've had a longer foothold.

Seafood has started to enter the scene on a high quality level in almost fast food like places in cities because of food trucks.

I think as soon as that happened Seafood related chains were dealt a slow and inevitable death. Joe's Crab Shack is another example.

Red Lobster may well somehow survive on their biscuits alone though we'll see.
