Holding the Winter Classic in Miami is the long-awaited proof that the NHL is capable of having an original thought. Good on Bettman to do something ballsy for once.

Hooray! Rags and B's both get yet another outdoor game!

I don't know how the league still profits from the expense needed for these.

I haven't given a shit about an outdoor game in many years, except when the Avs played, and I watched it on TV just like I would a normal game.

I think I might even watch ASG stuff more than the outdoor games, and I never watch any of that either.

Yep certainly is.

Man, am I glad we are free of this guy. Not only because of his atrocious goaltending but also for the locker room.
I'm just thinking back to all our years of suck and how much worse it would have been if we had to watch Georgiev in net to boot.

I owe Varlamov and JS Giguere a debt of gratitude for making those bad years better than they could have been from a fans perspective.

Varly got too much shit here. Some even wanted Pickard protected in expansion over him. His only problem was staying healthy. When he was healthy he was great.

What the team asked him to do, to cover for such a terrible D core deserved a lot more praise. Those high shot totals every game, and all those high danger saves just broke him physically.

f***ing sucks Lou gave him a 35+year old - 4 year 2.75M contract that doesn't end until after the 26/27 season. Could you have imagined the feels if he was a UFA this year, to bring him in as our #3? Pretty sure my wife would be preparing onions if that happened.

I really loved them, and I'm glad the league took a risk on putting them on. But feels like they have run their course.

I'm not sure Varly got shit on. I think people gave up on him due to, as you said, his health. I don't think anyone said or believed he sucked though, it was just that "IT" sucked he couldn't stay healthy and thus be relied upon.

For me, I always viewed him the same way I viewed Frankie. I don't blame them for not having good health, but the fact that they didn't, hurt the Avs. Still, they both gave everything they had while playing for us and I'm not sure how anyone can't be satisfied with that.

For Starters, Varly is currently ranked #2 on my all-time Avs list behind Roy:
Roy > Varly > Darcy > Theo > Anderson > not going any further¹

Backups go:
Budaj² > Frankie² > Giggy² > Abby > Hamburgler > not going any further¹

¹No way in hell I'm ready to insert Blackwood or Wedgewood into these categories yet... but signs are promissing they will be pushing people down and out.

²Budaj vs GIggy vs Frankie is something I haven't really thought out in my mind. I think "my" two top spots for backups are Peter and Pavel , althouh not putting Giggy in there is so damn hard. Anyways my thoughts... Budaj played 242 games for us and was always an ultimate team and locker-room guy. Frankie, also a complete team guy who also just happened to sweep the Connor McDavid-Leon Draisaitl led Edmonton Oilers in the playoffs after our starter was injured. Giggy though... I think his voice inside the locker-room probably means more for the legacy of the organization this his performance on the ice... which was also admirable.

At this point, with the league constantly pushing for and, due to the loser point, essentially acheiving pairity... I think the risk of putting points on the line in an outdoor setting is just too much.

Would love to see the All-Star game week completely removed and tacked on to the end of the Holiday trade-freeze/break.
1. Grow a pair of balls, and play your New Years Day Game on actual New Years Day... but it's the All-Star Game.
2. Pick whatever crazy destination that can pack in all of your corporate sponsors and hold all the fans you think you can draw.
3. Hold the All-Star competition and game here but that's it.
4. All NHL games should be played indoors on NHL ice. Otherwise, I must insist, no matter who is playing, anytime there is a Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, it must be held outdoors on South Beach. I'm sorry...but them's the rules.
