And I think everyone is tired of seeing the Blackhawks in like 50% of the games
Typical NHL Brain Trust thinking. They decide to try something new (a Winter Classic featuring the league’s two newest teams), it doesn’t do well on television, so they just go right back to the same well they drew on like a decade ago, even though it makes NO SENSE whatsoever because the Blackhawks are the league’s worst team.

Not surprising that Bettman and Daly quash any sort of original thinking.

The timing was probably the bigger issue vs bad and uninteresting teams. The game should've been played on New Year's Day as the only game of the night, and guess what? Hockey people will tune in because that's all there is, even if it's the leagues two shittiest teams.

Switching the teams isn't doing very much, if it's just one game among others on a full slate of games.

Preds score an empty netter to go up 2-0 on Vancouver.

Saros was fantastic.

No Hughes, no fun for Vancouver.

I never get tired of watching them lose.
I was going to say "Hughes should get the Hart trophy for missing games because that shows how valuable he is" but a guy on the main boards has actually just said that seriously so I have nowhere else to go

I mean if the Hart trophy was voted on the actual definition of the trophy, Hughes should be up there. He's that valuable for Vancouver.

But Hart trophy (or the other trophies) have never been voted on that basis.

Tell that to Mac the year he lost this trophy to Hall..... And yes, Hughes is very valuable to Vancouver, but he is still not even "Top 5" in Hart-Votings.... imho

AND injuries are part of the game. Deal with it. If you cant overcome them, well, your team is not good enough....

Oh, the irony... How often we heard this bullshit, especially during the COVID-Cup, when we iced half an AHL-Team and were down to our 3rd goalie... And still came within a few minutes to eliminate Dallas.....

Isn´t that funny anymore if you find yourself on the other side of the coin....

I had it in mind before it was rummored. Miller to NYR "makes sense" in that he already played there and would waive NTC (of course it's NY) and the NYR are poised to do dumb shit out of desperation. On the other hand VAN might have decided to punt the season because of injuries, get rid of a headache and have cap space to facilitate taking NYR to the cleaner on that trade. Good trade partners.

If it ends up being Zibanejad that could work out great for Vancouver, IF Pettersson returns to form. Zibanejad won’t have to perform way beyond expectations like he does in NY.

Only downside is that Tocchet will still be there.

No Hughes, Pettersson, and Hronek plus a very bad Thatcher Demko will do that.
Not just that though, they were suspect even when the first three were playing and Lankinen has been pretty good in net. They let go of some Dmen and didn't replace them properly. Their home record is awful.

They weren't this bad, but still pretty "meh" in a the worst division in the league.

For some weird reason Rutherford and Allvin focused all their attention and cap room on shoring up forward depth while almost completely ignoring the very big issues on the blueline and in goal. Now they have Chaos Giraffe as their #1 defenseman and that’s going to lose you some games. They’re lucky as f*** that Lankinen was out there or they’d be in REALLY big trouble this season.

What’s strange is their current home record. Is that just them playing nervous or their coach unable to take advantage of last change?
