The Rangers last season were a middle of the pack team propped up by elite goaltending.

Once that goaltending even slightly regresses the team looks brutal
That would imply that they are playing similarly, except the goaltending has fallen off.

Everything has fallen off. No, they were not a top team by advanced metrics last year but still a playoff team. Now they are a bottom team, and that's not just goaltending.

I 100% agree with you, but what I meant was getting rid of players to make space open for Igor's extension. They simply had to since Igor didn't take the 88 million dollar contract they offered him.
Well, I don't blame Igor one bit for not accepting the discount after having to bail this team out at even strength year after year. He saw what they did to his predecessor (Lundqvist, not Georgiev), if they're gonna waste his prime years, he may as well get his bag.

Rangers have absolutely NO ONE to blame but themselves in this mess. Got gifted a elite, gamebreaking franchise winger, an elite #1 D-man, somehow developed an elite #1 netminder to replace the elite #1 netminder whose career they squandered, AND a first and second overall pick and somehow did nothing with all of that.

Also should be noted they had a ninth overall in 2018 and a seventh overall in 2017 and the two guys they drafted there were complete and total busts.

They either should've moved on from Kreider or not drafted two wingers in a row when they already had those needs addressed. Just totally inept management from start to finish, and Drury is doing everything possible to make it worse.

NYR blanked with 12 SOGs? What the f*** is going on?😂
Yep. Operation Shutdown is in full swing. Those guys are actively trying to get the coach and GM fired. And methinks if they thought they could get the owner fired they'd be tanking it even harder.

What a change in one month around the league. The rangers are out of the playoffs, the preds are still in the basement. The Avs and oilers have finally got it going, and the sabres have found a new low 13 in a row and no answers.

Rangers also had 4 power-plays that game... sheshhhhh

Rangers are headed for a rough next couples years. Five of their top6 forwards are on the wrong side of 30 (Bread 33, Ziba 31, Kreider 33, Trochek 31, Smith 33). And with the exception of Smith, they all have multiple years left and all have NMC.

I mean look at that team. It's not like he sell everything valuable. Tough spot. He should probably just wait and see for now. Deadline think about what to do depending on situation.
History has shown that if you want to tank it, it's not that hard to divest your team of assets. There's always other clubs looking to pick apart corpses.

That said, Nashville's going to do everything possible to try and save their season, though I'll be stunned if they give up their first rounder this year. But if that's the plan, they can't afford to wait, they gotta go big the very moment the trade freeze lifts. I'm perfectly fine with them hampering themselves with yet another old fart.

The Blues being in the Winter Classic blows my mind. I get the Blackhawks sure they suck but the NHL wants to sweep the SA coverup under the rug by promoting Bedard. The Blues however are just bad, have bad players and bad fans it makes no sense to include them.

So Laine is back in Columbus for a game tonight and he said this to Portzline earlier today:

“Obviously, things happened, and that was kind of it for me," Laine said. “I feel like we were just doing the same thing year after year. I was tired of losing and just giving up when it’s December to start focusing on next year. I’m not going to do that. That’s frustrating as a player when you’re trying to win and some people are, you know, not like that.

As a result, CBJ are upset and decided not to show the tribute video that they made for him

That's just petty. I can understand if that quote pisses off the fans and the former teammates, but as an organization you should be above that.

Sabres up 3-0 against the Islanders half way into the game. Enough hasn't been talked about what a laughing stock the team that ends their losing streak becomes.

Columbus is a really fun team with some pretty damn high upside in the future IMO.

The two Russian forwards they've got have really surprised and impressed this year I think, and they've got a bunch of other quality youngsters as well.

They're a team I genuinely wouldn't be surprised to go on a run and compete for a playoff spot in March/April. And in a few years I think they're going to be extremely good.
