2024 2025 Around the League Part 2

what other series are y'all most interested in watching during R1?

Out west east, I'm think Canes/NJD should be fascinating and the fight for Florida should be really good. I think ours is really the only interesting one in the west. I freely admit I am extremely biased in the West but I just can't get excited about the other matchups though. Maybe Kings/Oils could be entertaining?

Leafs/Sens is going to be must-see TV. I can't wait for that series.

Also any playoff game in Montreal.

If the Flames somehow manage to catch one of Minnesota/St. Louis and make it, I think a Jets/Flames matchup would be a physical bloodbath.

Boy, I thought half a country being the ‘mid west’ was bad but this definition of west in the US has really gotten out of control

Good:

FLA vs. TBL: Similar to our series, a battle of two Cup contenders. Should be high quality hockey.

TOR vs. OTT: Battle of Ontario never disappoints, especially if the Sens can win the first game or two and send Leaf Nation into a panicking mess.

WSH vs. MTL: Strictly for the Habs. Playoff hockey at the Bell Centre is a sight to behold. Crowd, atmosphere, etc. will be insane.

Whatever:

EDM vs. LAK: Sick of this pairing.

CAR vs. NJD: Two boring ass teams with boring ass cities, boring ass arenas and boring ass fan bases. Yuck.

WPG vs. MIN/STL/CGY: I find Winnipeg boring. Could be watchable if it’s Calgary. Minnesota and St. Louis incredibly boring.

VGK vs. MIN/STL/CGY: Meh, nothing interesting. Minnesota and St. Louis incredibly boring.

It's doubly bad when it's two meh teams and they share the same meh color scheme. When you tune in, you need to kinda squint to see who's who, and before you can figure it out, you give up out of boredom and just start watching cat videos or something instead

Toronto-Ottawa
Florida-Tampa (obvious, Battle of Florida)
Dallas-Colorado (2 juggernauts in the west)
Washington-Montreal (just for the atmosphere at Bell Centre. But i think Washington gets this done in 5)

The rest?
Boring.

Maybe a possible match between the Jets and the Blues could get funny.

Please bringt back the old seeding. 1-8, 2-7..... Wachting LA and Edmonton for the 4th year in a row.....Boring as hell. The Pacific having a cake-walk again, while the Central is killing each other......

Every series seems interesting to me except two: Hurricanes/Devils and whoever plays St. Louis. I like the Canes a bunch, but they are finishing the season quite poorly, playing against a team that ranks 25th in points percentage in the second half of the season, missing three of their best players. Carolina should wipe the floor with them, but their demons will prevent them from doing that. I just see two teams trending downward big time.

St. Louis, as RIAL mentioned, just plays their entire life to clog any sort of neutral zone play, and that is simply horrible to watch because teams are forced to dump it in and TrashBin will just use his skills to stickhandle the puck out.
That's a nice move, but absolutely no chance in hell you would have time and space like that in the NHL.
NHL is moving away from big-time physicality, but players like Ben Chiarot would light him up on this goal. The next newcomer in the line of tough SOB defencemen? Emil Martinsen Lilleberg.

Yeah and regular season position doesn't matter with this system. It's quite boring. You should get on average easier opponents if you did well in the regular season. It just makes sense.
