2024 2025 Around the League Part 2

Potential JT Miller drama is the least of their concerns. Lafreniere took a big step back, Panarin went from 120 to 80 points, Igor is nowhere near the franchise goalie that he was before signing that contract and Fox is looking like a middle pairing guy.

I highly doubt everyone fell off a cliff at the same time.

Drury has to go.
The mistakes that sunk this franchise were made long before Drury took over. So yeah, he'll be fired along with Lavi, but the fundamental issues will remain. Namely, the owner. Most of Drury's dumbest moves were at the behest of ownership, especially that whole Trouba debacle that essentially broke the room. Hell, the whole reason he even got the job in the first place was because Dolan wanted the Rags to go full goon and both Gorton and Davidson refused.

And I don't think Lafreniere really took a step back per se, his production is down, yes, but that's because he's simply not a franchise winger who can carry a line on his own. His numbers went down because the stars around him took a step back. He's just...good. Not great.

And Fox was fine, his defensive numbers took a big hit but he's still every bit the franchise defender he was before. His supporting cast--especially his goalies--collapsed around him.

I wouldn't be too worried about the goalies, they'll likely bounce back, especially if the team as a whole finally decides to play actual defense! They might have been able to offer him less if they hadn't been so dependent on him in the first place.

How do you know so much about the Rangers? It seems like when you grew up NYR was your childhood favorite team? Why did you switch to Avs? I hope that Drury does not read your post cause he will be probably really mad at you.

 Rangers used to be my unofficial 2nd favorite team. I was just fascinated by that really weird phase when they had Lindros and Jagr, and then they "downsized" for about a year there and iced my favorite line of all time, Straka-Nylander-Jagr. That line was sooooo much fun to watch. Then they ruined all that and went back to the same ol' bullshit they did before, but Lundqvist was the only guy who could challenge Price for best goalie of that generation. I soured on them when they declared a rebuild and then f***ed it all up, I saw this implosion coming a mile away. People were waaaaaay too bullish on them, they were incredibly lucky until now.

As for a 2nd favorite team...I don't really have one anymore.

FTR I've talked shit about Drury when he still played in Colorado.

He will but he sure got the short end of the stick when he got stuck between the GM and the locker room that hated the GM.
I still say that was ownership more than Drury, but it was handled about as clumsily as possible.

That said, Lavi has plenty of failure to own on his own. He never got that team to play anything resembling defense, and even when they were winning the President's Trophy their even strength numbers were weak. They just rode insanely good special teams the whole year, which predictably dried up at some point during the playoffs.

Haha they tried to bully him into signing an extension and he held his ground, so now they're trying to save face. f*** off already...I highly doubt he sets foot back in the KHL until he's around Ovechkin's current age.
That was shameful, really. He was breaking all kinds of records in the KHL until they decided to play him like 3 min a game to punish him for not resigning there.

I wonder if Montreal ended up giving them money to get him out of there sooner, like Philly did with Michkov.

Oh I'm sure they did, hence the "joint decision."

What they should've done is snuck him out through Finland, Malkin-style.
