2024 2025 Around the League Part 2

3v3 renders ROW largely useless compared to RW. It’s closer to the SO than it is 5v5. Wish the league would move to a 3 point system or just go back to ties

I could have lived with ties if they kept them when they had them, but now the idea of an unresolved game seems like it would be infuriating.

Do they still have ties in other sports? Does soccer or do they do penalty shots?

Couldn’t tell you what MLS does but European soccer still has ties. It’s 30 minutes of extra time then penalties if it’s a Cup tie that needs a winner but otherwise it’s 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw (at least in the leagues I’m familiar with)

I believe soccer still does. The NFL still has ties, too.

The NBA strictly operates on wins/losses which is how it should be imo. They keep playing overtime until there's a winner.

Obviously, a team that is really good at ot/shootouts would want to play for extra time as much as possible.

The NHL can't move to a 3 point system fast enough. This BS about "parity" is artificially created.

Oh yeah I guess the NFL still had ties though they were pretty rare. Looks like they may have more now too after changing the rule to give both teams possession in OT.

Shows how much I follow American football that a Canadian has to remind me of the OT rules.

Too many sports to follow and too little time. I'm capped out with the NHL, MMA, and F1. Those are the most exciting sports IMO.

I don't know if I want to see a three-point system, they've been using it in the PWHL and teams are still trying to grind things out and settle for the 2-point win. I imagine teams will still do it in the NHL.

I would just like for the league to live with ties. Nobody likes them, but they happen. Gimmicking up the proceedings may work for a while, but eventually it makes things worse, especially when risk-averse coaches find ways to slog things up like they have with 3-on-3.

I say just do a 10-minute OT and if no one can figure it out by then, it's a tie. No loser points, no shootouts.

Feels like 10 min OT is a no go. As much fun as it is to watch the PA seems to hate the idea.

Only time I ever recall Nate complaining about being gassed, or playing too much, was after the 4 Nations 10 minute OT.

“No (laughs). We we're actually just talking about it in the room. Maybe 7 [minutes]? I usually feel better than that normally. It was just an adrenaline dump, I think.”

"I could barely see, I was so tired off that rush,” explained an exhausted MacKinnon. “I was happy when Marner scored, because I didn't have much left to give. So 5 to 7 [minutes] would be good."

Well, if they take care of business in regulation then they won't have to worry about an extended OT!

And in a longer OT coaches should be more wary of playing their stars too much, proper deployment in the extra session is still apparently something Bednar occasionally struggles with. I'm still kinda mad at him for that game in Vancouver years ago.

But yeah, I know, it'll never happen.

Lmao I used to follow the NBA religiously but I can't stand the product nowadays. It's NHL and NFL for me.

I think you would see A LOT more in terms of teams chasing wins in regulation late in the season rather than "settling" for the overtime point.

3 points and giving the other team nothing as opposed to 2/1 covers a hell of a lot more ground.

I would prefer to see 10 mins OT 4v4 with the 3-pt system. It would be much less of a gimmick and most likely have a winner IMO. Then go to shootout. The 4v4 OT would look a lot more like playoffs OT than the 3v3. More players would need to participate as well. Unfortunately the PA would most likely vote against that.

I just hate ties. You watch a game for 3 hours and you have no winner? No thank you.

That doesn’t work for players on a back to back game schedule. Pretty tough on them if they went into a shootout the night before.

Fam, that was smoooooooooth.

I was listening to my trance playlist today, and this song just captured everything that is right in the universe. I don't think I ever sent you this, but tell me if I did!

Awesome song mate. No you did not send me this before but this just sounds so good. I can just listen to this stuff for hours or drive on the highway playing this stuff. You got a good taste.

He probably won’t even hit 40 points. He’s missed a few games but…wow.
