2024 2025 Around the League Part 2

Yeah MacK would do a subtle throw his head back thing that you would have to look for to notice. He would also have that look lol. You know the look. No way he bangs his stick on the ice like Captain Quinn did there.
We can see that JT Miller, once the locker room leader, is no longer present to maintain order among the team. :sarcasm:

Still plenty of time for Heiskanen. I don’t think he’d have to skate much before returning.

It does seem like he may be more like 75%, if he does make it back for round one though.

Ekblad is literally Erik Johnson.
That’s why it’s hilarious to read the takes on both of these players around here and one be so positive and the other be so negative.
Y'know that's not a terrible comparison. But, taking that further, you couldn't build a defensive corps around EJ, and you couldn't around Ekblad either. The injury prone-ness is about the same too.

Personally, I think, in his prime, EJ was better. But I'm extremely biased, so...

Just once let the odds be stacked against DeBoer when we play him rather than him having everything at his disposal and Bednar being handcuffed by roster issues.

DeBoer with no Heiskanen would be interesting to watch come playoff time. Ripe, ripe, ripe for the picking.
No Heiskanen, and no Tanev. That'll make a huge difference compared to last year.

And judging by the last game the Avs bottom 6 seems well-equipped against Dallas' top line.

Heiskanen’s entire game is built on skating, he’ll be useless if they rush him back and risking long term injury would be foolish of the stars. They’re built better for the long term anyways. This is the Avs year.

Kinda sad seeing what's going on in Long Island. I'm told by a buddy who is a diehard Isles fan that Roy is just going through the motions, he knows what's coming and isn't really doing anything to prevent it. He said "He didn't lose the room. They broke him."

I hope St. Patrick somehow finds a way to stay in the NHL because I still think he makes the game better. But Lamoriello can go away already, his contributions have only made it worse.

Islanders was always terrible fit for him. He needs a team who has a real chance to win.

The more I think about it the more I think that's not exactly the case.

They had a top-flight goaltender and an injury prone but capable backup, who happens to be a guy who Roy knew and trusted. Literally any coach wants that of course, not just Roy.

They had a big, tough, physical defense with at least one very talented puckmover. That's more along the lines of what Roy wanted and never really got in Colorado.

Up front, yeah, okay, it's a very old and mediocre group. No coach could really do much there. Didn't help the two guys with the most dynamic offensive talent--Duclair and Barzal--have basically been hurt all year. I still think they're more capable than they've displayed this year, but it's just not a very good group overall.

All that said, I think two things can be true. One, the Isles are not a good team. Two, Roy isn't a very good coach at the NHL level. At the very least, he and Tourigny need to reunite because it went south for the former the minute the latter left.
