The most impressive part in all this is Gretzky was a playmaker first, not a goal scorer, and look at what it took just to break his goal scoring record.

What's even more impressive to me is Ovechkin lost 82 games in 04-05, 34 games in 12-13, 12 games in 19-20 and 26 games in 20-21 and none of it due to injury.

If we use his career scoring average and his longevity (guy never got hurt before this season) that's an additional 92 goals. He would have broken the record two seasons ago, maybe three and would have a legitimate shot at 1,000 goals.
