2024-2025 Around The League Part 2

The Ottawa RedBlacks say "Hold my beer!".
I loved it when they insisted it be all in caps.

I honestly prefer RedBlacks over Outlaws or whatever the hell it was they had in Ottawa previously. Generic AF.

Didn't the CFL have the Roughriders and Rough Riders at the same time? How long did that go? That's about as hilarious as the AHL having two teams calling themselves the Admirals.

Yes they did.

Y'all gonna be ok when Van passes the Avs in the standings and Hughes wins his 2nd straight Norris over Makar?
I'm so glad I've mellowed. Geting that third cup in '22, just fundamentally changed the way I view sports.

I really didn't think I would live to see another Championship. Thank God I didn't choose Toronto as my team when I started to watch hockey. Anyways, these guys gave me everything I could want and then some. I think it was mid December of 21 when I realized that particular team had something a bit more special than the previous iterations. Then as the spring started to come things just started looking better and better and the Avs literally cruised to a championship (even using a backup goaltender to sweep the McDavid and Draisaitl led Edmonton Oilers). Total score that series as 22-13 Avs.

These guys might be capable of disappointing going forward. But thankfully, that's about the most negativity I can muster towards an entertainment activity these days. It would be fun to raid the promised land one more time though!

Now Utah is considering the Outlaws again as their name.

So two of the three options are the names of Denver-based pro lacrosse teams:

Maybe they'll come up with Utah Broncos, Utah Nuggets, or Utah Rockies next.
Switch out "Hockey Club" for "Utah Denver Lacrosse Team".

Oh man, they're swapping out the only interesting one to go with...Outlaws!?!?

Jesus, I thought this ownership group knew what they were doing.
I love the people on Twitter who like Outlaws like it's clever or cool. Hey, are you a ten-year-old on Create A Team? Oh you are? Oh.

Does "I'm proud to be a mammoth" sound any better?

I've already said. Stop calling them "Hockey Club", just call them Utah. It's not hard.

Yes of course it does. We've all accepted that sports teams are named after things. We know they're a hockey club. That's not a name.

Just calling them Utah wouldn't make any sense either. There's tons, perhaps hundreds of sports team at various levels in Utah, including many in hockey. The name is meant to differentiate themselves and give their team an identity.

Oof. Outlaws.
Welp....guess that'll win. It's much worse than Mammoth, which wasn't great to begin with, but at least isn't generic.

I still maintain that Wasatch was the best option, though it didn't really roll off the tongue. And that's coming from someone who's familiar with the word. But Utah Wasatch is just a muddled thing to utter.

Utah Outlaws. From the most vanilla state in the nation.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a healthy discussion or even a healthy disagreement. But Mitchy needs to understand that when arguing with his coach, he'll never be right even if he was.... which he most certainly was not in this case, unless he was arguing he needed off the ice much sooner.

Mitchy's a hockey player. He's got tough skin...or he's in the wrong org. I think they'll be fine. This year and next. Probalby most of the the one after that....but that will be reaching the point where if we still have Bednar we will all be hoping for a trade.

Just trade Miits for Naz

I agreed with not extending Kadri at the time.

I understood the Avs decision at the time, but fully believe it was a mistake now.

But at the time, I think I was the only one really saying to trade Toews for cap space to keep Kadri. And once Kadri left, that we should trade Toews to get a 2C. Not saying anything would turn out different but I thought there were other routes the AVs could have logically taken along the way here. What's more important to a team? A 2C... or someone who can play with Makar? I mean Graves did an admirable job until he thought he was the main character. I can guarantee there are many dmen out there that would look good next to Makar. Toews is not special in this regards. When the team was struggling earlier, Makar looked better when Girard was moved up to play with him.
