Prospect Info: 2024 117th OA : Blake Montgomery (C)

#47 Blake Montgomery LW

I've looked at a few recent Knights highlight videos, and I find myself wondering why he wasn't selected higher than 117th.

Here's an interesting fact.

He had a slow start and only had 2 points in his first 7 games. But he's been consistently producing since.

In his last 14 games he's got 25 points.

That's 1.79 pts/gp

That's the same pace as sennecke, greentree and dickinson. If you ignore those first 7 games, he'd be like 5th in the league for point production right now.

Even as an overager, that's extremely impressive, especially considering he's still learning to grow into his body and it isn't a case of him just bullying smaller players.

to put into perspective with another overager,

24 pts in 14 games is the same pace Sokolov had at the same age. I haven't watched enough of Montgomery to really have a strong opinion on his potential, but my understanding his he doesn't have the same red flags in terms of skating that could prevent him from transitioning to the next level.

Time will tell if we found a gem,

Qmjhl is an easier to score league along with the fact that Montgomery doesn't really have a massive liability in his game.

Watching his highlights it's clear his tools are NHL level. Skates very well for a big man and clearly has some talent.

The development over the last couple years is impressive. Going from 8th in scoring on his U18 AAA team in his 17YR old season (draft year) to 43 points in 58 USHL games as an 18YR old is a massive jump. That's almost Batherson-esque.

Tools are there to be a player and the development curve is steep. Smart pick in the 4th.

Not gonna lie....I just love this kid for his ties to the yashin trade and the sens first ever draft pick.

Highlights from last night.

1:05 - BM(O?)'s 1st goal
1:50 " 2nd goal
3:20 " assist *

* WOW
Uses his long reach to steal the puck which sets up the 2 on 1.
Then all the way up the ice he looks like he's gonna pass, then prepares to shoot
which makes the Dman move his stick away from the passing lane.
Then he passes to teammate for the virtual empty netter.

Hah Hah

Youtube comment for the above video:

"I think the Knights could challenge for the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference of the NHL"

Nice second goal and setup on the third. Yup I’m pumped for this guy.

It’s nice to have a prospect who is comfortable carrying the puck. Tempered excitement.
